The Evil Clone

Most of the party fought hand to hand with the demons and undead, encountering no real difficulty. Avatara stood back and cast highly damaging spells at the demons. The battle raged on for about half an hour, new demons and skeletons coming in all the while. Desert Fox pointed at some demons and skeletons who were dragging away dead goblins and shouted to the rest of the party, "Hey, they're getting away!"
Slayer called the party together, then said, "We're never going to get anywhere killing these creatures. They come back as quickly as we can destroy them. Maybe we should follow those creature who are hauling away the dead. They might lead us to their source."

"Notice that there aren't any side passages?" DF asked.
"Kind of odd, isn't it?" Rogan responded.
DF looked at part of the wall and noticed a slight discoloring. Kicking the discolored part of the wall, he revealed acient passages...
Looking at them, the group was amazed. The ceiling was at least 100 feet tall, and there were stalagtites and stalagtites carved with runes and as ancient columns. The walls were covered with inscriptions, and there was an unearthly red glow that overpowered DF's light...

"That crystal looks like it's the source of the beam," said Kestrel, stating the obvious. Avatara said, "Maybe if we can move the crystal out of the way, it will shut down." Kestrel, Avatara, and Slayer all approched the crystal, but turned back when the tingling turned into a distinct pain, more than ten meters away from the crystal. Slayer picked up a stone and tossed it at the crystal, hoping to dislodge it. Unfortunately, the stone vaporized more than three meters from the crystal. Desert Fox cast a fireball at the crystal, but the energy was absorbed into the crystal. "There doesn't seem to be much we can do to affect that crystal. We should probably continue on," Slayer said to the rest of his group.
The party carefully walked around the pillar of light. On the other side was an opening in the cave wall which led to the outdoors. The rain was still beating down, but it was no longer deadly. All the adventurers stepped out of the cave and looked to the right. What they saw was a huge structure with a central tower about five stories high, being built on to by demons and undead. Slayer said, "I've seen this place before, but it was much smaller then. This used to be Tavara's Stronghold..."

As the adventurers approached what was once Tavara's Stronghold, the undead took notice of the adventurers, and about half stopped construction. Legions of undead and demons poured out the front of the massive building, straight toward the adventurers.

The adventurers took a moment to heal themselves, then marched towards the door of the stronghold. As they entered, they noticed that the top floor had taken on a distinctly red hue...

The party turned around to see what was happening, and saw a discouraging sight - DF was attacking Talos with all his might, while Talos, still very surprised, was barely blocking his attacks. DF's eyes were glowing blood red again...

"What the hell were you thinking DF" Slayer asked, obviously angry
"The darkness took over" DF answered weakly "It came in during the battle and I tried to control it but it soon overwhelmed me. It happened before and the academy is no longer around because of it"
"Hmm, we must decided whether it is safe for us to keep you with us" Slayer said with some disdain "I don't like the idea of darkness taking over while we sleep and you killing us all"
After a few hours of heated debating, the group came with their verdict
"We will accept you back. We do not want you to use dark magic again. You can remain with us, that is our answer" Talos said
"We should probably take a minute to rest," Slayer said as he began distributing a variety of potions, colored white, black, and grey.

*Slayer says...
I modified this post just a little because the front door of the stronghold seemed like a bad place to sleep.

"Get out now...while you still can...the things ive seen...all of the guards are being controlled by the duplicate...must get out..." Fanatic said.
Suddenly, the wall behind fanatic falls down on fanatic. Getting out from under it, Fanatic sees another Slayer in place of the wall. By this time, half the group was watching.
"Aw, you haven't had enough? Ah, well, a little more won't hurt..." the duplicate said, then started casting a spell on Fanatic. When he was done, the Duplicate vanished, and fanatic eyes were glowing red.
Fanatic started attacking Slayer...

When they were right above Fanatic,Slayer and his party Grapper jumped off his new pet condor named condor and accidently landed on Fanatic and not noticing it asked Slayer if he had seen a dragon around here.Slayer replied...

Slayer and the others dragged Fanatic's corpse out to the front of the stronghold, then broke down the door to the main tower and began their ascent.

Avatara's fingers are still steaming from the freeze spell he casted on Rogan and Kestrel as he runs over to the decapitated body of DF. He reaches down to touch the body as it dissapears in shimmering dust. Avatara says"Grapper is right this is not DF, it was a duplicate of DF. Slayer's clone is now duplicating us, his hunters!"
Grappers slips out from underneath Rogan's and Kestrel's swords. As he stands up he says "I don't believe that was Fanatic that we killed either, I think it was his duplicate." "Slayer's clone knows that his best defense from us is us." Now we not only have to kill Slayer's clone each of us will have to kill our own evil clone and find DF and Fanatic.

"Bloody hell" DF said as he cast a spell which disinegrated the blindfold. He then cast a spell which turned the wall into dust. He was in some musty stronghold with no way to tell where in it he was.
"Just the perfect way to start my day" he thought as he set off down a hall.

Avatara was facing the most dangerous of the elementals, the lightning elemental. IT used lightning attacks that, if unchecked, would kill him. His blocks came at the right time every time, therefore allowing him to live. Ground element attacks would be the only thing to stop this elemental from destroying the group. He summoned earthly powers to take out the elemental but they missed. The elemental decided to have fun and zapped Rogan out of commision after his battle with the water elemental. Avatara then decided to stop this from happening again with a spell silencer attack. This time the attack hit the enemy and knocked it to the groud. It then pulled and electric sword out and beackoned for Avatara to attack. The battle raged for a while with neither warrior beign able to defeat the other. The lightning elemental soon just stopped, for no reason. It then disappeared. Avatara then saw Kestral behind him and knew what happened. Kestral used an earthly spell on the elemental which slowly sapped its power. This in turn slowly destroyed it while it fought Avatara.
The last challenge here was Fanatic himself. As the warriors prepared themselves, he charged...

Fanatic thrust again. It cut into slayers shoulder.
Fanatic fists glowed briefly with dark magic, then he punched Desert Fox.
Desert fox began to fight back. He threw a fireball at Fanatic, then another, then another. Fanatic was distracted by all this, and so, slayer literally sliced fanatic in half. Fanatic seemed to burn with dark fire, then fell dead.
"All right, you have proven yourself worthy of another companion, namely, this young man, but remember, you can always hurt the ones you love..."
Fanatic groaned...

"Brainless bastards," he thought.
Far from being a coward, Talos begins his own search for the end of the clone.

With war there is great amounts of death. Men and women make themselves known, doing dangerous feats in their attempt to become heroes.
Some succeed, some don't...
