All of a sudden, an eerie light appeared inside the chamber.
"It has begun. Only a limited time now. You can only defeat me here and now. Chose, the world or your friend." the clone stated as he begun to laugh.
DF thought a quick thought to himself and cast two spells which did all but knock him out. He threw a magic aura bubble around Slayer and cast a dark wave spell on the clone. The magic couldn't transfer to Slayer because of the Aura buble. The clone thrashed in agony as DF shouted orders
"he...hes weak....get...him.......now!!" He said as he slumped over, all his power expelled.
The group, knowing what could happen, stayed still. Slayer decided that this was the time to act. He approached his clone and then....

...hit it once in the head. Slayer himselw was thrown backwards, but Rogan and Fanatic ambushed the clone and tied him up with a rope. Rogan handed Slayer the book and yelled: "Quickly! Say the spell!"

After Avatara handed DF a potion, DF set to defending Slayer. The rest were off fighting the clone in any way they could without interfering with Slayer's work. When the clones started useing spells, DF cast bubble protection for Slayer. The clone laughed maniacally at the adventurer's attempts to stop him. Sure, the dark wave hurt him bad but at the speed they were moving, there was no way they could win this. Rogan realized this too but before he could let out a spell, the clone was taking him on one-on-one. There was little he could do for this until Talos stepped in to take on the clone. The speed of the battle was great for the clone had apparently honed his skills in speed fighting. As the clash of swords was going on, Rogan released the spell...

...hellfire. The fireball (which destroyed a wall some time ago) hit the clone and flung him backwards, into the wall. The original Slayer was protected by the bubble, and it didn`t harm him. The clone suddenly caught fire and to everyones surprise, Slayer screamed. "Quickly! Put the fire out!" yelled Rogan. Talos covered the clone with his cloak, putting the fire out, and Fanatic made another attempt to tie up the clone...

Talos throws his sword to stop it. The clone reeled from the attack as did Slayer. DF cast another bubble as he decided to try a little something of his own. He gaathered the power and cast a variation of his dark wave spell. The result was a powerful blast which propelled the clone into the wall stunning him indefinately. The bubble protected Slayer from the same effect as he continued to try and reverse his wrongs and stop his clone.

Even though Slayer's clone was stunned, Talos said, "Tyligo!", calling out of instinct one of the few spells he knew. Instantly, writhing ropes wrapped around the clone. The bubble mostly protected the real Slayer, although he was somewhat constrained as to his movements. Time dragged on...

Slayer completed the first part of the reversal spell. Suddenly, the outlines of Slayer and his clone became blurred. "For this next part of the spell to work," yelled Slayer, "I can't have this mystical barrier around me!"

The spell isn't so sensitive that I have to be without distraction. Indeed, it is remarkably difficult to mess up. It just takes a long time to cast. As long as I'm not incapcitated for more than a minute or so, the spell will work fine.

DF reversed the protection spell, and with it, the real Slayer had a number of rope wrap around him. They carefully loosened the ropes as to keep the clone trapped while allowing the real to cast the spell. DF, Rogan, Avatara, and Talos went over to the clone, to keep watch over him in case his ropes were too loose...

*Slayer continued his chant and seemed to be getting close to finishing as it was nearly impossible to see any details of Slayer or his clone. Suddenly, a loud boom was heard and the group jumped to their feet. Talos and Avatara hurriedly left the room to see what was going on while Rogan, DF, and the sleeping Grapper watched over the clone.
Avatara and Talos returned with a worried look on their faces, and quickly reported that massive renegade goblin and troll tribes were assaulting the inhabitants of the fortress and have already made their way inside. Another loud boom is heard, and the entire fortress shakes slightly...*

A particularly loud rumbling was heard, along with some crashing. The grotesque portraits were being smashed, meaning that the giants were going up the stairs.
"We need to defend ourselves. Nobody else is going to." Avatara suggested. "I say we blockade the entrance up to this level."
"Wait... Maybe we could knock down the final stairway? That would certainly prevent them from getting up here." Rogan considered.
The rest of the group agreed, and Rogan and Avatara went down to try and knock down the stairway, if possible.

Rogan immediately returns and hurriedly points out that the creatures are climbing up the outside also, and seperating the staircase wouldn't help. A loud blast of heat and a rumbling that caused a couple paintings on the walls to fall down immediately follows. Avatara stumbles back into the room, clothes slightly stained with goblin blood, and asks Talos if he has a plab.*

As Slayer completes part two(out of three) of the spell, his blurred outline stretches across the room from his position. The clone's outline does the same thing. The two blurs meet at a point halfway between Slayer and his clone. Due to the spell, the clone can no longer maintain a grip on his weapon, so he drops it. The clone no longer poses a threat to anyone. The attackers outside the stronghold, however...

"Quick, ladders are coming up by the windows! Knock them down!" DF warned, practically screaming. DF, Avatara, Talos, and Rogan each went to one of the four windows to knock down ladders coming up. The now awoken Grapper stayed to watch the clone - just in case.

Slayer's clone is pulled across the room into Slayer by the magic of the reversal spell. There is a flash of light, then Slayer is recombined with his clone. As Slayer becomes unblurred, he says to the people who are engaged in combat, "Let's get out of here."

"Quick! Everyone head down the ladders!" Avatara exclaimed. Soon, the group was clambering down the narrow, rickety ladders that led to the cold stone ground. As they began to reach the bottom, they saw that a number of goblins were trying to knock down the ladder from the bottom. If they succeeded, everyone would be thrown off the ladders to meet their deaths. However, it seemed there was no way to get the goblins to move...

The group took a short glance in horror about what had happened to their friend Grapper. However, they had more immediate things to attend to. Talos and Rogan had to fight fiercely to avoid being cut down, and were trying to move toward the other ladders to get rid of the goblins surrounding them.

*Avatara drew his sword, and the ringing sound echoed through the air. With a quick slash, he cut through the nearest goblins, and the troll that had unluckily ended up between Avatara and Slayer. Avatara and Slayer, with Talos covering their back, held off the goblins and slowly made their way away from the fortress. Rogan and the others were in another group, and had managed to break free. Rogan's group had already made it out of the battle and were at the forest, unnoticed by the goblins and trolls in the chaos.
The clone's minions were distracting most of the horde, giving Slayer, Avatara, and Talos a chance. Seizing the opportunity, they obliterated a catapult that was pounding away at the fortress's walls and slaughtered its crew. They were almost free!*

The clone's minions were distracting most of the horde, giving Slayer, Avatara, and Talos a chance. Seizing the opportunity, they obliterated a catapult that was pounding away at the fortress's walls and slaughtered its crew. They were almost free!*

The catapult had collapsed after the attack, and its remains had created excellent places to hide. Quickly, Slayer, Talos, and Avatara made their way through the wreckage, meeting with only the occasional goblin. They were approaching the forest, but their was a small open field that they'd have to run through, where there was no wreckage to hide behind. If any of the goblins saw them bolting through the field, they could easily have a goblin detachment after them.

And so our heroes fled from the fortress of Slayer's evil clone. What remained of the undead burst forth from the gates of the fortress and viciously, but chaotically, attacked the goblins. Despite the sheer power of the undead, with their leader absent they proved an even match for the goblins. The two factions, so occupied with fighting each other, completely neglected the brave heroes, allowing their noble, though hasty escape. That night, as the heroes marched triumphantly back to Cademia, the burning of the fortress could be seen for miles around. And so ends the tale of the evil clone.
