Does rushing through "the main quest" really accomplish anything if all you're going to do is head directly into a sequel? I suppose if you're looking to dramatically shake up the cast there's a point, but on the other hand, if you're trying to tell a story about a group of new characters, does it really make a difference if the story is told in one topic or ten topics?

Hear! Hear!

The MAIN QUEST is to have an Adventure! The reason our characters set out (aka: "the main quest") is just the plunger on the pinball machine; it would be cool if the ball went the direction we planned at first, but when we try too hard to make that happen, it just falls between the flappers.

I think you mean we get a TILT. /pinballnerd tongue.gif

Good job getting through that puzzle though. wink.gif

Are we at Ignae's home now, and are they staying with that guy who lives there? (whatever his name is)

I left us at Eioneus place, mostly so we would,
A. not get stuck in the encampment, &
B. to rest/finish healing before continuing

That said, I am okay with editing the last paragraph pretty drastically if someone has a genius plan for a post that needs it to be different, especially on the last half. I'm also fine with minor edits/clarifications of what people were up to while sitting around waiting for the long night to end.

Fun as would be to annoy Selax by settling down & starting a farm at the compound, I do agree that we shouldn't get bogged down when there's adventure to be had!

I also think that Pirro would actually have quaffed a Smiths Friend Potion, lit himself on fire, & jogged back to the barracks instead of doing the mad sprint I had him do. If enough people want me to edit that in I'd be glad to otherwise I'm leaving it so as not to pull a George. (I recommend teasing Pirro for not having thought of the obvious solution tongue.gif )

Well, in the past, I have found that when a TS is lagging in activity it is often better to finish it quickly and try again. I have also found that activity tends to stay higher when a TS is focused on a single quest. Of course, it is possible that these observations are not accurate in the case of this particular TS.

By the way, does anyone have an idea what to do with Jhiaxis?

Devastatingly insult Jinrai in his native language & run like a bat...

Side-quests aren't what slow us down, everybody on different side-quests, or waiting for the master-mind behind a side-quest that doesn't make sense are what slow us down.

& if we just want to get it over with, we could have journeyed down the rat-lizards hole & serendipitously found the story of the attack on Jinrai & Jhiaxus etched on the wall in a mysteriously decipherable script along with an artifact described as holding the power to bring her back to life when activated on the (i forget what the thing where you see her ghost-figure is) when that is performed the psychic link between Jinrai & Jhiaxus is restored & he comes running into her arms while we rush out of the volcano before being buried by the resulting earthquake.

But I think that the adventure still has enough life that we don't need to pull a Deus ex Machina.

My question is: Should we leave the abandoned characters with Arimi at the compound?

I'm not sure. I think that if the abandoned characters are left behind there will only be two or three members in the group.

I will probably try to post something in this in a couple of days. I'm thinking that the group will learn the story of Jhiaxis and Jinrai from Ignae and also that her spirit still lingers in Land's End Volcano. The group can then either try to persuade Jhiaxis to go to the volcano or go there themselves and attempt to persuade Jinrai to get Jhiaxis to leave the mine.

Does anyone have an opinion on which option they should pursue? Also, who is still participating in this story?

I think I did a satisfactory job of explaining that they forgot about him happy.gif so all's good

If I am understanding correctly that killing ruffians is a no-no, how are they supposed to get to Land's End?

Can they run?

I'm surprised, you actually had

I admit the thought occurred to me tongue.gif .

However, given the continual low activity in this TS, I'm not quite certain how to proceed. I could (if you permit) edit or delete the post and attempt to keep the TS somewhat serious, or I could just let it go its own way and see what happens. Given that others have already posted following on your post, it might be better just to allow it to proceed onward. At this point, I'm not really willing to make large changes without consensus among the members still participating in BT.

So, who is still participating and what are their opinions of how to proceed in this TS?

I didn't realize it would take you nearly so long to read it, but I did think it would be cool if others posted after me so that you'd be reluctant to delete :P

As for who's still participating, that's easy. Shorty and Jacks are the only ones still participating. (And Jacks doesn't have internet access.) Kat quit, Valy and Wizzy disappeared, and you are apparently unable to do anything besides school during term. I'm not sure whether I'm still in it or not.

But I'm willing to edit out the Trundaylan bit, because I admit that wasn't realistic ^_~

Sely- It's not that I thought the TS itself was too serious, but that us writing it are taking it too seriously. Personally, I think it would be in the TS's best interests to lock this OoC and just play the story by ear.

Shorty- I loved how your post was accurate to the actual game. Clever ^_^

cool post 453 but I don't have enough info on ingame conversations and quest completion methods to continue the current string.

Don't they need to offer bread or something?

Yeah Nezmy, in the game you need to offer homemade flatbread to get anything out of Jinrai. I improvised a bit :\ You could maybe find information for the quests on Slayer's Guide and Fiery gathered a bit of the game dialogue too (I admit I looked up Jinrai's monologue before I wrote that last post).
Links: Slayer's missions guide: http://www.scrabab.com/mission.htm
Fiery's dialogue collection: http://idisk.mac.com/sfiera/Public/cythera/dialogue.xml

Anyway, the way I see it is that to complete their quest, they either need to learn Seldane and convince Jhiaxus to leave, or convince the miner's that it's safe to mine with him there :\ Neither are very creative ideas, maybe someone can come up with a better one?

Also I edited my post to allow for a typo Nezmy caught ("lots lava" instead of "lots of lava"), the edit was entirely Shorty's idea, but I really liked it. ^_^

I edited again, adding some direction to my post in the hopes of encouraging more posting?

Nezmy gets credit for the direction I chose (moving the pedestal to the mine), though I'm not sure how serious he was about that... :D

I'm inclined to agree with Wizard.

Again, I apologize for my inactivity in this TS. It has been a really busy year.

That said, if no one objects, I will probably go ahead and end this TS in a couple of days. As is customary, I ask that everyone go through and remove any OoC comments from the TS. I might leave the one in the first post as information for anyone else who reads it later. Opinions?

Also, it would be helpful if all those who read or participated in the TS would give an opinion about how well it fulfilled its goal: that of being a TS more closely based on the game with a simple plot and with less overpowered, more-realistic characters.

(Note: this was the goal as I recall it.)
