I'm out in the mountains this weekend and probably can't get a post in until Monday.

I've also been out of town for the weekend, and I doubt I'll feel anywhere near capable of posting until Monday night. Even then, I'm not sure I'll be able to see a way forward with the other thread. I could maybe post a little dialog with Sideline, or move Rythan and the Ronin around a bit, but apart from that I'm drawing a blank.

Ragnar0k's turn now, I guess. At any rate, I think I can start bringing the threads together in my next post, if nobody else has done it by then.

Things seem to be pretty well wrapped up, it may prove difficult for me to invent something from what's left. Heh, you weren't kidding when you said you could wrap everything up in a single post :P

Well I'll be off, my work's cut out for me ;)

Well, stopping after Sideline's segment would have left it a bit more open...

Yeah, but I really wanted to get that bit with Mort in. :P

Anyway, in case it helps, it occurred to me that the group that was holding Sideline might not be the top. I just couldn't come up with a way to bring that out in that post (it should have been possible, but I was just too tired to think). Sideline et al will now be looking for the next guy up the chain, giving another opportunity for someone to tie the threads together.

Oh, and please leave Mort out of it, if you can. I want to take him back to the tavern, soon.

Hmm, Trundaylan dead. Problematic, considering he has one or two specific mentions in post-current-era chrons. I could edit him out, I suppose, but I don't like changing stories so long after they were posted. I could bring him back (I have the technology!), but I don't want to interfere with Avatara's intentions. Hmm. :P

Whoops, I rarely read chronicles so I didn't know he was used outside of the tavern, stories, and Wolmark's (maybe even Flynn's) wedding. Is there anybody else that gets mentioned?

I kind of stopped trying to write stories set in the future a while ago, for a similar reason. Once you have a future story you're set on having, you've fallen into the trap of locking those characters into that story with whatever state they were described in (eg, they can't lose an arm if they had both arms in that story), which makes it really hard to write with those characters in the present - because there's not a lot of room for sideways development if you have to keep in mind where they eventually end up.

'Mentioned' is about all anyone else's characters get in my chrons, with the exception of Moonshadow's chars. 'Dark Legacy' lists several: Slayer, Trundaylan, Avatara, Ferazel, Rogan, Lindus, Talm, Talos, Rogar, Lindor and Katerei.

DO NOT READ THIS UNTIL YOU READ MY POST

You have been warned

Alright, I have tied the threads together like so:

- Malis invited Sideline to the ball because a group that had once kidnapped him was going to make trouble.

- This group worked with the aid of Rapierian, relying on his assassination of Propontis as a distraction.

- While Sideline was grabbed by one group another member nabbed Mariya with the intent of kidnapping her for ransom.

- Malis did not only rely on his old friend Sideline, but secretly hired outside professional help to aid from the shadows.

Tid-bits

-Malis is probably going to stick to his story of finding Mariya asleep in the library, as "I hired a shadowy figure" would look really bad for him, especially with the assassination.

-Mariya has little or no memory of being taken and what happened while she was, though she might have little slivers of information that she recalls as only a dream (in case you guys want to make something up)

- The organization that nabbed Sideline and tried kidnapping Mariya may have done more, or may still be doing other things at the ball, I guess it's up to you guys to decide what that might be.

- You can probably guess who mister shadowy figure is, but he is -my- mystery guy and he is gone now, so please no: "The guards captured that shadowy person" posts.

Finally, I hope you all enjoyed the post ^^

Brilliant! Very well done.

I haven't brought Trundaylan back, in case anyone was wondering. He's just on ice for a while.

I'm going to post, something with Rapierian possibly. It'd be handy if he could have teleporters in his fortress (like the ones in the Seldane city) to enable him to return to the city, but that'd be too powerful, I guess.

I have a loose idea (which might pertain to the TS plot in some way) as to what Philinus and Lindus could discuss, but it's somewhat complicated. Thus, I won't use it unless no one else has an idea how to proceed.

Trundaylan took a knife to the throat, severing a pair of some rather important major arteries. I don't think that's something he can easily shrug off. Besides, I think actually bringing him back at this point would sort of cheapen the whole "mortal" thing our "heroes" already stretch the boundaries of. Sometimes luck runs out and not everybody makes it home.

Aside from the already stated oversight that he's been mentioned as being alive in twenty-odd years time, I'd agree with you.

Thanks, I had a few ideas and then after a quick talk with Selax I was able to tie everything together in the neatest way I could think of. I liked what you did in the last section with Trundaylan and Mort by the way, looking forward to finding out what's going on there.

**

Now the decision to make is, where does the TS go from here?

I'll be busy today, so I don't have the time to write a nice post, however I can leave you all with a few ideas that you might be able to run with:

- The organization (kidnappers) is not done yet, and now another sinister plan (maybe they kidnapped all the napkins! or more seriously, the bride has gone missing) is being set in motion, leaving our heroes to stop it before it is too late.

- The action for the TS has drawn to a close so everyone simply writes wrap up posts.

- Things settle down a bit and everyone returns to the ballroom to have dinner (all that food can't go to waste).

- People begin to wonder who was behind the night's events and because he was acting strangely Lord Malis finds himself under suspicion and at risk of being sent to the dungeons!

Anyway, there you go, four ideas on how to proceed from where we are.

Mandatory Spoiler Warning

Malis has been imprisoned because there is evidence that points to him as the mastermind of the night's tragedy. How you clear his name (or -if- you clear it) is entirely up to you.

Cache

Sideline can ask the prisoner whatever he wants, Rythan answers lies and the words "I don't know" with broken bones. Maladera can be brought in to heal the man a bit, and then the process can repeat as necessary. The man will not lose consciousness short of dying.

P.S.

I am unfamiliar with Cytheran law and therefore so is Rythan. There are many places where torture is strictly forbidden, but Rythan does not come from a place like that. If someone wants, Rythan using torture can be made into an issue.

Well, I'm temporarily free, so I think that I shall get a post up today. However, my weekend class starts next week, so my ability to participate in the TS might be several hampered for the next few weeks or so.

EDIT: The majordomo of Nicander is some original character, by the way. I don't think there is one in the game.

I'm glad someone finally posted and now it appears that someone is attempting to cast further suspicio on Lord Malis. Very interesting stuff :P.

I don't know how much bearing this might have on the TS, but I regret to say that I might be forced to bow out of the remainder of the TS and indeed much of the web board until some time in May. I dislike doing so, especially since some of my characters might be part of the plot. However, my weekend class starts this Friday and appears that it will fill (or at least severely complicate) the remainder of my schedule. After if finishes, I might find myself in the beginning of finals, so my time would again be filled for another twelve days.

I hope that I am overestimating the extent of the situation (as I am prone to do often) or that I will be able to manage at least sparse posting in that time. If neither of these is the case, I wouldn't expect much on any topic from me until May (at which time I'll probably go on a posting marathon to catch up on the topics that I was unable to post in earlier).

EDIT: it just occurred to me that I might want to put in my character in some sort of situation to explain his absence (something that would enable me to return him if I have more time than I expect). Please, no one disturb him without asking first.

EDIT 2: actually, I might have more time than I first thought, so I might be able to get up one or two posts a week, although I doubt either will be very long.
