I'm not even going to read the first three pages..

After 911 there was some guy that drove by during the fireworks screaming, "F**k you Bin Laden!" and he just did that over and over and over and over.

I actually had a post written out to revive this topic, but I decided against it. I was very surprised to see it back up again.

But happy late Independence day!

Tanis and Trah, you should do the same.

You might mean no disrespect but that doesn't change the fact that that post is very insulting; akin to the statement: "I'm not racist but". Yes, my parents are liberals so I am influenced by them, but I am not regurgitating what they tell me. I started this topic before I started tuning into the world in a significant way, so it does not reflect me currently. I watch the News hour on PBS every day, (go SBS for showing it in Australia!!) and read CNN and google news. I am going to be eligible to vote in 20 months, I am not too young to form reasonable opinions; just because you feel you are too young doesn't mean everyone feels that way. If I wanted to, I could become a JustChatian, but I have other, more enjoyable, ways to talk about Politics.
Please, if you have any more sagely advice for people you don't know, keep it to yourself in the future Posted Image

On the day of September 11, bush was reading to a class of little kids. A secret service agent walked up to him, and told him that planes had been highjacked, crashed into buildings, etc., and what did our wonderful leader do? First, he made a really clueless face, then he sat back down, and read to the kids. After he finished reading, he got on air force one, and ran. He hid. Many people have said that Bush had to protect our government. This isn't true. The president isn't very important at all in the grand scheme of things, life moves on pretty fast when the president dies. Not to mention when the vise-president dies. Where was Cheany? Same place George was. Not where he should have been.
Bush hasn't been serious about anything for his entire life. He was born with a collection of silver spoons, He went to a party school, he got drunk all the time while he was at party school, and then he settled down to manage a very lucrative oil company. He became president to forward his own business, and when 9/11 happened, he didn't have a plan because he isn't a competent president. I find it hard to believe that people can still defend Bush. He's either a lunatic hell bent on running our country into the ground, or just a complete moron.
Bush will be remembered as a good president, but anyone who tries to tell me he is doing (or did do, depending on the time frame) a good job will hear differently. Clinton Will be remembered for impeachment, it will be an injustice, but largely insignificant in the long run.
People have talked about how important it is for us to please the rest of the world. It isn't important to please the rest of the world, its important to make sure that we see the whole picture before we act. The Kyoto treaty is a very good example. The Kyoto treaty is bad for America because it would make us lower our emissions, and use less energy. This in turn would lower productivity, and probably (most likely) smack our economy pretty well. However, we use an eighth of the energy used in the world, and have a twentieth of the world’s population (my statistics could be off, I haven't studied this in a while). Now, if we drop out of the Kyoto treaty, then we get to keep our economy strong. But because we dropped out, so did Russia. It starts a chain reaction that ends with no Kyoto treaty, and no laws against emissions. Then, the earth gets screwed. This may not be the best example, but I think it gets my point across.
Social Security was a good idea. Unfortunately, when people got back from World War II, they wanted to have kids. This is understandable. People almost die, and they want to leave something of themselves behind, a wife almost loses her husband, and wants to keep a piece of him, and make sure that she won't loose him forever, even if he dies. It makes sense (in a bizarre human way). Unfortunately, we had a lot of babies on our hands because of this. Eventually, they all got old, and now, they are retiring. That many people retiring, and they all want the social security money they have been paying all their lives. Again, this makes sense. The problem is, their are too many of those people, and now my generation, our generation, has to fund them. It is unfair, but if you stop it, many thousands of people will become completely broke. That isn't fair either. So what are you supposed to do? I'm not even going to pretend to know what you do, but what you don't do, is take all of the surplus money we had, and waste it on tax cuts for the wealthiest few percent of people, and you don't spend a couple hundred billion dollars on a war that is not founded on anything that even remotely exists in reality.
You all probably have gotten tired of this topic, and probably moved on, but I thought that I wanted to toss my two cents into the ring.

Just an interesting point, but do you know what Operation Iraqi Freedom was called for the first twelve hours or so?

O-peration
I-raqi
L-iberation

And that spells what boys and girls? Once the gov. figured the acronym out, they changed it, but it still is a pretty funny coincidence.

Acually, it's Operation Iraqi Freedom. Not Liberation.

Let's just say that all politicialns are jerks. George Bush (in the eyes of a majority of Americans) is just a bigger jerk.

Just because other people would loose a spelling bee doesn't mean you have to losse your brain cells. Looser. ;p

Nope. Granted, we don't have any information to go off of here, but it is very unlikely that the President would be called a "bigger jerk" by a majority of Americans if they were asked a non-leading question about politicians in general by an impartial polling organization asking everyone in the US. If I were to hazard a guess, I'd bet that the Clintons could combine for a larger portion of the results than Bush would, but, either way, I'm certain that nobody would get a majority.
