Next, I trust that the clan will return eventually. I suspect that school has gotten in the way of their usual unbridled posting enthusiasm and this summer they'll show up in a large whirlwind of flying sheep.

I sent an email to vecoriwen asking what happened. You're probably right, though Pufer. Something with school must have gotten in the way, which is odd, however, because finals (dun de dun...) are still a ways away, and teachers don't usually give students too much work in the run up to them (at least in terms of big tests or anything, and I don't think that the all-hours-of-the-day studying period has come yet. Which reminds me of last year's science final, where I didn't study 1 single minute, and scored a 74.5 out of 75. Whee!)

I honestly didn't notice, accually. I have been working on schoolwork, too, in fact, though I am working on next year's school work. I hope to get into a Digital Arts program, so I am trying to make some kind of portfolio with some of my 3D animations, some photoshop stuff, some miniatures that I painted (their photos, of course) and some "creative" photos of Spain. I have been working non stop for the last few days. I had a day off of school (ear infection) on Wednesday, and I spent over 8 hours trying to texture something. I think I'm falling apart.

Depends on your school really. My teachers are cramming the rest of their curriculum and review in now, until the end of next week - when the half-month of spaced out finals begins.

Maybe the clan's disappearance isn't so school-related; perhaps they are "up to something"...

Well, we did just get back from Spring Break. The teachers at our school have this thing; when they feel the school year is almost up, they pile on the homework (5-6 hours a night) and kill us all via fatigue.

Load of crap, indeed. If you took every class that I ever took in middle and high school, put me in them concurrently, and gave me the full assignment load every night, I'd still be done in less than an hour per night. Hell, if you were to add up how much time I've been doing homework this entire semester, you wouldn't come up with six hours.

If you add up all of my homework and studying hours last year, it would equal about 2 hours, tops. That was freshman year, and I got a 3.5 GPA both semesters. This year, it would equal about 1 hour, tops, but the grading system is different here, so I don't know my GPA, though it is pretty high.

My teachers assigned a lot of homework, but nobody actually did it at home; they'd cram it in just before class started. Now they've stopped giving out work because they don't want to grade it.

You people are lucky. I usually work from about 4 in the afternoon until about 9 at night. Pretty much every night I have Spanish (about half an hour's worth), Drama (memorizing lines, finding music, writing scripts, ect...about an other half an hour - 45 minutes worth), then I have my PE binder, which only takes about 20 minutes, Biology (45 minutes to an hour), Math, which usually takes me about an hour, checking it over and all, and English (studing for vocab, reading assinged book, doing project that go with assigned book and reading a book I picked for extra points) and hour to an hour and a half.

Now, thats roughly 5 hours of homework, plus dinner, plus drivers ed. So don't tell me, thats its a load of crap that I have too much homework. I hope to be posting frequently again soon.

Good Question. What, exactly, are oyu getting out of it?

And why don't you taslk to your teachers, and explain to them what the homework load is like. Maybe they'll understand that kids need time to do other stuff too.

I hardly think that getting their coronas burned out by artwork counts as more important than homework. To the teachers, at least.

It is worth it. Every highschool grad here with a certain GPA gets a $10,000 scholarship.

Here in Australia I get almost -no- work. It is really amazing, I have gone through an entire quarter year with a grand total of 1 quiz (I have 7 classes), 2 pages of typing, and a 2 minute presentation on a book I read 3 years previously in my US English class. This is in the "level 1" classes. No homework, ever.
School at home (US) is a different story. I had about 2 hours of work each night. Those two hours came from math and Spanish.

Heh. Posted Image

Down here, any idiot who manages to get a GED or graduate HS at all with any GPA gets a full-tuition, eight-semester (plus $1000 towards a ninth semester) scholarship to any school in NM. Additionally, all you have to do to keep it is manage to maintain a 2.5GPA as a full-time student every semester during that time period (something which I maintain that I could do in my sleep).
