I feel a quote coming on...
"Organized religion destroys who we are, by inhibiting our actions, by inhibiting our decisions, at of fear of some intangible parent figure who shakes a finger at us from thousands of years ago, saying "Do it-Do it and I'll f*cking spank you"
I love that movie.

That movie kicks ass.

And, you know, I think that if preists really are looking out for the welfare of our kids, they would stop promoting ignorance and tell them that Genesis is not true.

Please refrain from having religious discussions in an area with such a small user base-it gets ugly

Mmm - probably a good point.

I still want my 2 cents in on this one.

Man does not have the ability to define for himself a system of right and wrong. We are not able to clearly discern it on our own and it is because of this failing that we are required to have religion. The Nazi's felt that they were truly justified in what they did - what reason did they have not to? Tell me what in Science tells you that it is wrong to commit genocidel? No fact tells you that. Man cannot judge his own actions and will simply slide into the gray without a set of standards to live to.

If I gave you a board and a ruler with the markings scratched off then told you to measure the board, you couldn't do it. In the same way we must set our own boundaries, physically, mentally, ethically, morally, according to laws written, yes, thousands of years ago. Laws handed down by a God that cannot reasonably be refuted to a people who desperately needed them. That is the extent of it.

That, there, is simply a basis for religion - not Christianity. That is a whole 'nother cup o' noodles.

Anyway, that's the way I see it. Give me some other good reason to live.

Actually, I think its society that decides what's right and what's wrong, based on what is in their best interests. Ethics can't exist without at least two people. If there is only one person in the world they could do anything and nobody would criticize them for their actions. It would take a second person to say something is right or wrong, and for those two people to get along they'd have to compromise on their perspectives on how life should be led, that's where ethics come in. Society decides that pre-marital sex can be ethical or unethical; society determines if killing someone under any conditions is wrong, or if its justified if they're assaulting you.

And in wars, its usually the winning side that determines what's right and what is wrong. After world war 2, we accused Japanese ex-Prime Minister Tojo of war crimes, among which included bombing civilians - despite the fact that the Americans had executed two bombings of civilian targets using nuclear weapons, which were highly devastating. Why did we get away with doing it, when what the Japanese did was condemned as wrong? We won, America set the standard of ethics in that situation, and its not the only example.

What did he do? Just because he doesn't acknowledge that ridiculous falsehood of a god that you pathetic fools worship, doesn't mean he is an ******* . If anything, you're discrimination makes you an ******* (and my writing this makes me an ******* )

Hey, I didn't say anything about anyone because they do or do not participate in organized religion. I'm staying out of this.

I agree with you, organized religion is evil.

Who are you talking to by the way? I think the damnation/hell aspect was aimed at TheLoser, for such a stupid remark, and had nothing at all to do with promoting organized religion.

Hmmm. Maybe I was misinterpreting. I got what he meant, and while it wasn't funny, I don't think it waranted a "go to hell" so I figured it must of had something to do with his stance on religion.

(plus I would hate to let a chance to bash on something I hate go by. It's a real waste (especially when you are a rage fuelled arguement dependent idiot))

Now, if you had made fun of µ in some way which actually had even the slightest iota of wit in it, I'd have let it slide. But this is just stupid.

Now, where was I... ah, religion. Yes, I too have a strong distaste for organised religion. It seems to me that good people will be found in all walks of life, religious and secular, and that these people's strength, generosity and goodwill will shine regardless. Organised religion doesn't encourage morality in people, it just encourages the enforcement of your own beliefs on those who don't share them, and the "one truth" myth (that there is only one truth, and that you have the monopoly on it - and so should never listen to others).

You forgot to add the copious amounts of top grade Vietnamese fish sauce and the large, randomly placed piles of comfy pillows. Without those we would just be a slightly less odd forum with a brownish background and a general, if not total, lack of platypus minions. What were you thinking man! Posted Image

Unless you folks have been stuffing the comfy pillows inside the dumples also, I will not be satisfied. Not to mention that I prefer my comfy pillows not covered with dumple paste and fish sauce (compromises the comfy quotient of any given pillow). Posted Image

Hehe, the funny thing is (which isn't that funny)

There's a kid, and he calls me a cow..and every time he sees me he goes "Mooo" so...yea that was more insulting than you thought, but it was funny at the same time because you had no idea, and because I'm really not, believe it or not, a cow.
