Do you have any information on why the soviets went to extreme lengths to acquire 37,000 nuclear bombs when only about a 500 were necessary?

Just something you'd want to wonder about. It seems to have been an all-consuming passion for them. (I wonder where they are now.)

I have to say also that Pallas your statement about the general irrelevance of Christ is not very true. For one thing, Christ basically affected the entire history of the Roman empire, causing it's fall to be quicker, it also dominated the fuedal structures afterwards. So for about 1500 years Europe was totally dominated by the memory and passion of Jesu.

Today we have Christian institutions, Christian law. Christian is basically a synonym for 'Western'. I would say that it is amazingly influential. And it's influence is about as great now.

Perhaps, but its influnce is starting to decline and governments have been seperating religion from state. (and not in the "halfway" fashion the US has done) As they do so, religion tends to play a lesser role in people's lives.

I do not deny that Christianity has had significant political influence. What I believe is that, while the idea of the Christian God readily took root in Europe, very little of Christ's teachings had any social or cultural impact. Sure, most people lend a helping hand when it's needed, but they expect to be lent a helping hand when they need one - the idea of the bargain is hardly unique to Christianity.

I know that it played a massive influence, partly economic and social resulting from the collapse of authority.

I'm much more interested in it now. It seems as though Christianity, despite having 2 billion +/- believers, is having little effect. This may have something to do with secularism, it may not. In my opinion, people just aren't following it.

Maybe some people aren't motivated enough.

...and then there are the people that actually follow what the Bible says. We like to call them saints.

Corny minions?
[EDIT]Well, it appears that AOL isnt going to let me link to them for an image they are hosting, because they find themselves to good for us normal people. On a side note, is it bad that I wrote an edit longer than my entire previous post?[/EDIT]
