It's an online turn-based massively multiplayer EV/O/N style game. You can read how it works at the Guide link I posted at the beginning of the thread Posted Image

Sarg, I agree that would be a good tactic. Unfortunately, as killme said, this game was launched 1 week ago and there's no money transfer yet Posted Image You can however make about 260,000 creds per turn usually by using a Scout(lots of fuel for long range) with 4 runabout escorts to run bulk missions and hope you don't get pirated too quickly :/

Now, of course, this isn't possible yet - so I'm going to propose another similar idea that isn't possible yet:

We buy ships to put in fleets, right? Well, those ships don't have to *stay* in the fleet. Whenever we get a new player, we could easily exchange their ship for one of the gunships we have in reserve, and then sell off the explorer for it's trade in value (probably 75K or so).

In other words, a starting player would have 300K of cash for escorts, and a pretty fancy ship to defend them in. Bulk escorts are only about 20K/turn to maintain - and the cost of the ship would allow players to upgrade without carrying around excessive cash.

1) I didn't quite follow all the secret planning stuff, but I get the impression that our government will be established by the end of the week...right?

2) My account isn't up yet. Damn.

3) Do the makers of this game need to buy copyright permission from Ambrosia? It seems like a total copy of the EV/O/N concept...

Well, we've started discussing battle plans for when we're a full government - and reporting them in this topic could be a serious information leak. Sounds important, doesn't it? Posted Image

As for new governments - the main issue, it seems, is the creation of colony ships. Now, if they haven't enabled them by the end of the week (which is what they intend on doing), then we might just get to bypass the ship, and get Tralf and a government, hardcoded. We hope.

Well, as soon as you login, I should know - I check the active player list frequently. Reading this topic should give you a good idea of what to do when you get your account, though. Just keep checking email. With luck, your account will be up in a few hours.

Well, one thing I notice is that they rather specifically try and use graphics from plugins, as opposed to from EV Classic. Of course, you can see how influenced it is; New Alliance ships look eerily similar to the Manta/Destroyer/Cruiser. But they're not.

Ripping off a "concept" is probably harder to classify. The influences are pretty clear; Ambrosia might be able to win a lawsuit. But why bother? Anyone who plays it will probably go on to purchase EV, or already own a copy. Ambrosia would be spending money to decrease their income...

Last I checked, ASW didn't seek licensing from the makers of Asteriods(Maelstrom), Centipede(Aperion), pop-pop(breakout) etc. Obviously you can't copyright a game concept, and in any case an ASW suit vs the Hideout would be hurt by the fact that ASW employees have stated "Online EV would not be EV" Posted Image

Besides, we all know EV/O/N is a ripoff of Elite Posted Image
http://www.frontier.co.uk/games/elite/

Quote

"Elite" was written by David Braben and Ian Bell starting in 1982 while the authors were still at Cambridge University. It was first published by Acornsoft on the BBC Micro in September 1984 to huge critical acclaim. The rights to other computer platforms were then auctioned by Jacqui Lyons of Marjacq, and British Telecom then went on to publish on many other platforms under the name of Firebird.

In "Elite" the player starts with a basic Cobra MkIII space craft, and a measly 100 Credits. The player then has to survive in a hostile galaxy containing traders, pirates, police, bounty hunters, and an elusive alien race, the "Thargoids". The player can earn money in many ways, including taking say, food from an agricultural world to an industrial world, and machinery on the return journey. They may prefer to be a pirate themselves, or perhaps do a little of each.

Howdy. I thought I'd explain what's going on with your Colonizing situation:

I was very surprised/frightened that someone was requesting a colony ship only about a week into the game. Because the game is so young (and I didn't do any kind of large scale beta testing), there are a number of bugs to be fixed and features to be added. I just thought that you would like to know that since I am back in school, my time to make significant changes (new systems/governments or my beloved 'Minor Updates') has been reduced to weekends. I will make the creation of your new gov one of my priorities this weekend.

Just so you know:
The first Hideout was based on EV Classic, and created around 1997. Since then, the Hideout has been running off and on due to problems with daily site maintenance. The scripted Hideout (the fifth one) is designed to remedy that problem.

Money transfers are restricted on purpose so that a person cannot signup multiple characters and simply give himself the 300,000.

Thanks for being so interested in the Hideout and understanding of its faults. I appreciate it a great deal.

EV gets old fast cuz the ai on the computer ships is silly so they are ridiculously easy to kill once you get the hang of it, and act the same way EVERY time you have to fight them. We were hoping to make a more interesting game cuz it deals with with real people on multiplayer. And we created a new universe and changed all the ships from the old version so it would be somethin different from ev...

So is there a reason why I can't buy a new ship? I select the ship (scout), set it to buy ship, select 1, and then click confirm. And I'm still stuck with the explorer. Why? I'm running a mission, so will it not let me change ships during a mission?

You need to be docked at a planet ( check Ship Command ) to buy a ship. Also if the ship has [] around it like [Scout] it means:
a. you're in space
b. you're at a planet without a shipyard/without the required tech level for that ship.

That's very strange, I set my info so it was just like yours and had no problems.

When you check info for a ship it removes the highlighting from the listed ship...could that be the problem?

Ah well, I succumbed to the fatal Pirate Attack as we all have, and to make matters worse, I was attacked by 3 pirates in the SAME DAY. Basically, I was a mobile fuel dump for passing pirates, and now I have no money. Sorry, I may have to start over if I have any hope of surviving, let alone contributing to the colony ship Posted Image .

If only players had the option of intercepting attacks on others (in their system), then maybe Pallas could have rescued me.

Damn. I tried to stir up some interest in this game in the EVN forum, where I thought the readers would be more interested, and a moderator (Frandall) locked the topic within the hour. Apparently, the topic wasn't "nova related," and thus deserved to die. Heh, OUR moderators are playing the damn thing!

that would be analogous to posting this topic in the Briefing Room here. You'll notice i picked trash talk ( like EV b&b which has a thread on it already ) Posted Image

Of course I could have. With an explorer, no weapons, and 10K cash.

Did I mention? After I was reduced to 5112 cash and an Explorer, I was pirated *again*.

I don't think Volkov will survive the weekend, fortunately. I figure that, with that kind of brutalization, he'll lose everything to "LN Fleets." If not, I figure that I'll at least get back to 300K cash. And then, I intend on hunting him down. I've been pirated three times now, and I didn't take the first two personally. But this..?

I figure we should really use a smaller ship for our first government ship. Once we can actually *afford* a Gunship, we can put it in.

I don't think we can get much cash off of Volkov - it's all invested in his ship. Then again, stealing his ship would be rather nice.

Spend the 300k on a Jaeger and set your Cowardice to be 100% all the time. It's fast and unless the pirate has another Jaeger with an afterburner, he won't be able to catch you.
