So, in case anyone somehow didn't know this already, the last Potter book is out.

I managed to snag one despite having no preorder. Thank you, Moony!

Anyway, off to read.

This is going to make ATT very quiet.

They have huge piles of them all over Albuquerque, kinda' makes me wonder about what the big fuss about the preordering was.

Well I bought it at half past midnight, walked through the rain from the BBQ I was at, then came back with it.

Woke up Saturday afternoon, and read the whole thing in one sitting.

Was really good, but not for the faint hearted! It is very very sad, lots of death and depression from very early on. To be honest, not sure where she got the whole 'Two characters die' bit from. So prepare yourself for heartache.

I cried, and have no shame in admitting it! Several times, truth be told.

Slight spoiler follows:

Went to the B&N release party which was loads of fun.. (We had to wait around for 2-3 hours in a bookstore, so Vec and I read up on "Knowing Your Body: For Girls/For Boys") But finally having that book in my hands was pure magic in itself. I started reading yesterday at 10, and finished at 1am. I can't believe it took 15 hours! So much for that 8 hour theory...

Amazing book.. I simply couldn't put it down. And even though it was much darker and, as Veccy puts it, depressing.. it is still my favorite so far. The ending was wonderful. Although, I'd like to hear some opinions on the epilogue. WARNING: SPOILERS!

Seriously! I couldn't believe it.. I had to re-read it several times before I actually took it in. Even Sirius had a better death. But I guess Dumbledore's was more along those lines too.

There are no more plot points! It's over!!

I thought there was more of a parallel between Harry and Ginny to James and Lily.

How so?

She has said in an interview over here that she wouldn't be against doing some more books in a few years. She was extremely upset with the thought of never writing one again, I thought.

There are no more books..

I would be okay with a "Lily, Snape, Lupin, James, etc." book or two. It'd be fun to know more about them. But I can hardly imagine it taking off like the other stories. It'd be sort of like Lyra's Oxford and His Dark Materials.

My favorite line:

Overall, I found Deathly Hallows very disappointing. Not as bad as Order of the Phoenix, but probably the next worst. And I'm not just being a Negative Nancy here. I loved the sixth book. It ended with powerful bleak suspense, but DH simply fizzled.

I was in the Caribbean for the release, so I only just finished reading it.

I wish one of the Big Three had actually died. Personally, I was rooting for Ron to get himself killed. I've never liked the whole Hermione-Ron thing. In my mind, it was always Harry-Hermione.

Oh, and please...... the Death Stick? Can there be a worse name for a wand?

but those are just details, I still loved the book.

I was a huge Harry-Hermione lover until about the sixth book. I sort of gave up. But there was always that hope that Ron would die and Harry would take over, so to speak. But I've really come to like Ron's character over the last few books.

still my favorite, and has been for a long long time. Needless to say I was pretty heartbroken.

That's what I assumed too.

Seriously guys, yes there were (fairly) gaping plot holes, but it was still a good ending for the series. No complaints here.

A few. I forget exact examples, but yes, there are a few.

And maybe I did exaggerate. Not "gaping holes" as much as "inconsistencies".
