Okay, I know the third prophecy of Neleneus the Savant has been discussed to death (here and here), but in all our discussions, we assumed that the third prophecy referred to either the events of Cythera 2 or the events between Cythera 1 and Cythera 2. (To be fair, Gandreas himself implied that.) But last night, Shorty pointed out to me that our assumption is incorrect. The third prophecy actually refers to the TSes and chronicles that we have written! O_O First, I will quote the text of the prophecy, for convenience. Then, I will go through it line-by-line (as Shorty did for me) to demonstrate how obviously and fully it is talking about us.

Quote

And in the End of the Second Age, the Great Unifier shall pass.
Upon this leaving, shall chaos and disaster come.
Land and Sea shall part, the middle can not hold.
Air and Fire shall wreack havoc, and Night shall fall.
From the Night to the Next Dawn, what was One shall become Many.
The Bird of Two will bemoan his fate, and that of the Third.
The World shall be sundered before the Coming of the Dawn.
And shattered shall it be ever after.
The void shall not keep the parts of the Whole,
For the powers of the Four Directions shall form a Fifth.
The Four parts of the Opener of Ways, Made One.
This shall be the Key to the Fifth Element.
Those that walk the Fifth Element will Bring the Dawn.
And from those Walkers will be brought a New Order.
Only the Walkers of the New Order shall have the Unified Power,
And those of the Four Directions shall be at their mercy.

  • "And in the End of the Second Age, the Great Unifier shall pass."
(The player completes the game. The "Great Unifier" is Bellerophon)

  • "Upon this leaving, shall chaos and disaster come."
(Then Cythera forumites will start writing TSes.)

  • "Land and Sea shall part, the middle can not hold."
  • "Air and Fire shall wreack havoc, and Night shall fall."
(These two lines probably reference the elementals not behaving consistently in TSes. It may also be referring to Selax and Avatara)

  • "From the Night to the Next Dawn, what was One shall become Many."
(From Gandreas's single canon timeline, to many disjointed and contradictory stories.)

  • "The Bird of Two will bemoan his fate, and that of the Third."
(Magpie is not impressed with the way he and Alaric are portrayed in the stories.)

  • "The World shall be sundered before the Coming of the Dawn."
(Again, the stories are disjointed and contradictory.)

  • "And shattered shall it be ever after."
(Despite Tyry's best efforts for consistency between stories.)

  • "The void shall not keep the parts of the Whole,"
(The Internet Always Remembers. We can't just delete old stories, they are with us forever.)

  • "For the powers of the Four Directions shall form a Fifth."
(Humans are the fifth element)

  • "The Four parts of the Opener of Ways, Made One."
  • "This shall be the Key to the Fifth Element."
(These two lines are a reference to the Crolna and the game that brought us all together to write.)

  • "Those that walk the Fifth Element will Bring the Dawn."
(The writers will save the day.)

  • "And from those Walkers will be brought a New Order."
(The "New Order" is probably the "Next Generation" of TSes, from Echoes onwards, when the writers started trying to be consistent between stories.)

  • "Only the Walkers of the New Order shall have the Unified Power,"
(The pen is mightier than the sword)

  • "And those of the Four Directions shall be at their mercy."
(Even the elementals are at the mercy of the writers.)

As you can clearly see, the Third Prophecy predicted our stories with eerie accuracy. The question remains, how did Gandreas know?! How did he know this would happen?
I'll become even more undignified than this

Well done 453. I think we know how OfR needs to end then...

Well, it makes sense to me. I hadn't thought of the fact that Selax and Avatara both represent different elements, but it's a good point. Throw in Katerei for water and you have three represented. Now, all we need is a mage who specializes in dirt.

Hello, Two Jacks. Good to see you around. I hope things are going well.

I actually know pretty much how I want to proceed in OfR--it's just the amount of writing between me and the ending that's the problem.
Long Live Cythera! Long Live the Cythera Web Board!

I now run a TS Character Killing Service.
