(continued from part seventeen)
Grapper and Semius stand and prepare to face the flood but realize that swords against floods is not a fair match. Then three strange water creatures appear from the foam of the cresting waves. "I will not allow you to do this," Grapper says. "Try us," they respond.
Grapper runs at one of the water creatures and it is down before it realizes what is happening. Grapper strikes at another but it melts into the water and appears behind him. It strikes him and he falls into the water. It's now knee-deep.
Grapper gets up and he and Semius flank the creature. "Why are you flooding the city?" Grapper asks. "Orders from the boss-man," it answers, and lunges at Grapper's fire amulet. It almost pulls the amulet from his neck but then Semius strikes it from behind and it too is killed. Now the water is above their waists.
The third water creature stays out of the reach of their swords. Finally Grapper out-maneuvers it and presses it against the wall. "Who are you working for?" he asks. The creature doesn't answer but then the water reaches Grapper's chin and the creature melts away.
Now Grapper and Semius have to get out but they spent all their time in Abydos fighting instead of figuring out where things are and they're not sure where to go. They can barely keep their heads above the water. Then they see an white-haired old man who is apparently a pretty good swimmer coming towards them. He grabs both of them and then tugs them back to dry land.
"You have saved us. I am very thankful," Grapper says.
The man smiles and says "And you have saved me many more times."
"Hector!?"
