Well, it's not like I would bias my sampling to annoy you or anything.

And to be honest, re-reading Grapper's Return, I think it's really not the clunker we always made it out to be. It's too short, but maybe if it had been published when it was first written he might have continued with the next installment. Five of it put together really wouldn't be that bad.

Fiery, I'm really excited about your archive! It is way better than anything I thought we'd be able to do! Amazing ^_^ Also, when I tried again this morning, I'm no longer getting the "not world readable" errors :D

I think it was the poor grammar that made Slayer hold off for a while, especially since there were usually other stories in the pipeline. And in the two or so years it sat in the queue, a bunch of other moderators piled on with jokes.

I think I only ever actually published a few chronicles. I left most of that to Slayer and took on the TS participation side.

As I understand it, Grapper's Return was the first bad chronicle, and that's what made it a legend. I too wish she'd completed the series (that line "we're not even in Cythera" totally threw me), and I also appreciate abbreviating the fight scene to "in seconds they are all lifeless." But the story needs some description. Also at one point the dialogue switches from Grapper to Hector without closing & re-opening the quotation marks - that small problem was one of the most amusing parts to me, somehow.

A while later, some other poorly written chronicles were submitted (notably, bellerophen, a ten-year-old kid whose first language was not English, submitted several) which kind of spoils the legend of Grapper's Bad Chronicle.

When you're getting computers to do things for you, it's a lot easier to just tell them to get everything than to try to be smart about it. There's still some work I need to do, so that I can update the archive without fetching everything all over again, but hopefully the site doesn't go down in the next week or two. (the part of the ASW site that I'm most personally concerned about are the Ares add-ons)

Yeah, permission errors are easy to fix and you shouldn't see them anymore. Some things (like changing the filters) are never going to work; others (like the drop-down forum navigation) are probably not worth the effort.

Speaking of add-ons, is there a way we could back up the Cythera ones? With the exception of the music and Sely's save-files, I think most of the files would need to be downloaded in OS 9, yes? (I have now killed all of our Cythera-compatible computers)

The link does not work! I get a error that says, roughly translated from Finnish, failed to connect to address www.courtain.com:8000. Firefox tries first to connect to the address courtain and then fails to connect to it. Then it tries to connect to wwww.courtain.com... and then fails to connect to that either.

Are you certain the address is like you wrote it in your post?

As far as I know, the first part of a website address is the protocol. Like www is the protocol for web sites. And there is no courtain protocol as far I know.

Can you fix the address? Or do something else that makes the link work?

I too failed to open the new link, though the sfiera.net one still works.

Oops, yes. I forgot to change the link from the one I use when testing to the public, sfiera.net one. The archive is here.

This is somewhat off-topic, but ever since GM was pinned, I've been clicking on the wrong threads @_@ I'm so used to there being five pinned threads! I wonder if you'd consider unpinning Slayer's Guide? It's linked in the Best of Cythera, so I always thought the pin unnecessary. Of course, #cythera! is linked also, so now you'll probably unpin both to ensure that I continue clicking on the wrong threads...

I got tired of having to go to page two to find GM.

OK, and addons too now.

Also the Ares forums and addons, but that's a different matter.

An archive wouldn't be complete without Grapper's Return. It's part of the fabric of the legend of the Cythera board. I remember the days, the cringing, the desperation to get something, anything, submitted so Slayer wouldn't be forced to do the unthinkable...

Since you mentioned you'd backed up the Ares forums, I went up a level from your link and started poking around.
I'm getting 403 forbidden errors when clicking on topic links in the Ares boards. Is this a problem, or are they just in processing or something (since you haven't added official links to the Ares forums)?

Fixed that, still don't know the root cause. Anything on the Ares forums mirror or the Ares addons mirror should work now.

Still getting 403s, sorry. It was something about not being world-readable. Is anyone else getting 403s or is it just me?

I got those errors on some of the Cythera threads when Fiery first shared them, but he fixed that quickly. I just tried a random Ares thread and got the same error.

Ah, yes, I did indeed bungle the fix. It should be OK now.

Welcome to the board, Rzrwd (assuming it's not 453 posting under a new account :P ).

Thank you for your work, Pallas. An excellent job, as always :) . Also, thank you, 453, Avatara, and everyone else who has been working on this project.

Did anyone look at the invisionfree.com site? Does it seem like it would serve as a replacement forum or are there better alternatives available?

I have another question about old Chronicles. Fanatic mentioned submitting part 4 of his Undine-Stronghold re-telling, but as far as I can tell this was never posted and Fanatic never mentioned it again? I don't suppose anyone knows what happened there? I'm guessing the submission failed, but I don't know why Fanatic never complained about it.

Well, assuming we do use invisionfree, would it be best to begin setting up a new forum as soon as possible (it might be possible to wait somewhat longer) or should we wait until the forums go down (it'd be harder to contact everyone to let them know of the new forum's existence in this case)?
