at the risk of being repetative.
I would just like to say having moved deep into the plot-line of Cythera this game is awlsome. I believe a hand is owed to the Ambrosia folks. This stuff really cool, and in-depth.
props and applause.

Yes, Glenn's attention to both detail and subtlety is the thing that really grabbed and kept my attention throughout the game. A lot of what you learn in the game is garnered by reading between the lines, rather than just blurted out.

What I think is best about the subtlety of most of the clues in the game is that you feel really smart when you work it out yourself. I remember I was jumping round in circles for a week when I discovered the tomb of the second Tyrant. The whole two paces thing was really cryptic.

Personally, I find that one of my favorite things about the game is the Tavara sub-story. It's fun that it's not a quest but you can figure it all out anyway.

It really annoys me that it leaves some sub-stories hanging. I mean, what happened to Tavara in the end? Who is Omen? And so on.

It is generally believed that Tavara is the lich in the Second Stronghold, and Omen is an Undine.

That's only what we on the boards think. And by "Who is Omen?", I meant what significance does he hold? Who is this master he talks about?

more unsolved mysteries means more fodder for writing, however. :P

Really? I came because I couldn't work out how to get some of the sapphire books. And because it looked like everyone was having so much fun, I decided I had to join in.

I looked at the game page, wondered what type of game Cythera was, lurked the board, wondered if the game could really support all these shenanigans, downloaded and played Cythera, decided that it could indeed support the board activity, (this was when Echoes from the Past was the current TS), and joined in (after Shadow Games had already started, so I tried to revive the Tavern)

That's my story of how I joined the Cythera community.

My big brother used to play the most boring game ever. He played it for awhile, convinced our mom to let him register, beat the game with the aid of Slayer's Guide, and never played it again. Upon playing it myself a while later, I decided that rather than being the most boring game ever, it was the best game ever. I started using the internet for the first time to visit this board (in an attempt to learn everything there is to know about Cythera), when I was ten or eleven...

Cythera ruined RPGs for me, I can't play one without thinking "it's not as good as Cythera..." or "why can't I fit more stuff in my inventory by putting it in boxes first?"
I'll become even more undignified than this

I had the same problem, only it was my dad playing it, and when he introduced me to it (I was perhaps eight), I immediately got killed by the ruffians, and vowed never to play again. Two years ago, I revoked my vow, and I have now finished (before my dad, you may be pleased to note).

I've been following Ambrosia since I was maybe 9 or so and I downloaded all their games. Cythera ended up my favorite, and EV and Redline are a very distant second and third.

And Cythera ruined RPGs for me as well because now I think all the new ones are just violent graphics (as in, images, not as in violence, that's another issue) show-offs with no plot just a bunch of stupid fighting. PoG and Avernum aren't as bad, but Cythera still pwns all.

I still remember I was stuck in Cythera for a year because I didn't know how to play RPGs and didn't know how to drop a bomb at the door in Omen's test! When I found out I felt so embarrased because it seemed so simple.

Glenn perhaps planned a Cythera 2 based on his hints. This is commonly assumed to be the game where Omen and Tavara and all those other things would be explained.

Tavara and the Undine are my favorite parts of the game, though a bunch of things are close seconds.

POG and Avernum are second for me as well.
My favourite bit is the strongholds, because you get a lot of complicated mysteries, and some fighting.

Strongholds fall in the same catigory as Tavara and the Undine to me.

I've never really played either PoG or Avernum; Cythera is about the only RPG I play. (I tend to prefer RTSs.)

I found all the non-Ambrosia games through Ambrosia/Ambrosia games or through my software bundle on my iMac. Other than that, all the games I have are Ambrosia's.

If you can use mac classic, look up "Xconq", its a turn-based stratagedy, with emulations of most major wars i nhuman history, CIV II, and even a LoTR (made before the movies!!!). That is good fun!
