Pff, all good DM's would like nothing better than killing characters in funny ways!

Example: One of our players was playing a female elf priestess. We had just killed two minor demons, so we examined the treasure chest in the room to see if there was any good stuff in it. She goes over, opens it, sees a magical necklace and puts it on. It was a necklace of strangulation. The player had to make a new character, and we laughed for about 10 minutes before we could play on.

The first cave crawl my friends did involved a vampire and a warrior, travelling through a cave. The GM got the vampire to face wooden elementals. Big wooden elementals. Which, and this was the beautiful part, fired wooden stakes out of their arms...

Needless to say the vampire didn't last long :P

I started gaming in 1977, when D&D consisted of three small booklets. Our group eventually moved to AD&D, then branched out to Traveler, Champions, and other genres. We currently play Vampire: The Masquerade (we haven't transitioned to the new ruleset yet), Mage: The Ascension, D20 Modern, Amber DRPG, Star Wars D20, and occasionally Star Trek.

I've never deliberately plotted to kill off players, but will take advantage of assumptions to the fullest (such as by putting a stairway right behind a door - cures the group of breaking down doors).

And, oh, the gaming stories:

In regards to 'piss off the DM' as a style of play, two of my players chose to do that when we had some newcomers to the group. Consequently, I spent more time handling their antics (which included hauling a dungeon door around, as well as setting fire to the forest). By the time one of them decided to pick one of the newcomer's pockets, I'd had my fill. They failed their roll, the other characters noticed, and chaos ensued, leaving the irritants in a bloody heap on the floor. Those players complained and were asked to leave the group.

Then there was a GURPS/Cyberpunk session where the characters are infiltrating a building - there's a large open space before the stairs, and we said to one character, "Kris, go for the stairs, we'll cover you!" He did, and the GM rolled a critical hit. He then rolled location, and got a head shot. Kris' character didn't even make it halfway.

A classic gaming story (not mine) is 'Eric and the Gazebo' - look for it on the web.

Neither do I, actually. I've never seen any part of the game in the real world, even as a picture.

You're so lucky. I've always wanted to see one. I'm rather unfortunate.

I don't think they are that rare, it really shouldn't be hard to find one.

I havn't played for a while, unfortunatly. This is for several reasons. One, there was a creepy guy who started playing with us and he was bordering on sexually harrassing me. Two, other players(all male) have wanted to host at their house rather than ours (my brother is a DM) which would require spending the night, which would make most parties involved uncomfortable. Three, I haven't been able to stay up into the wee morning hours like I was able to during the summer, thus rendering me a not very useful player. And four, I have been coming across engagments on Friday and Saturday nights, so I have been able to make time for it.
Hopefully soon I'll be playing agian though.
Can you imagine if I was deranged?

That's right. Shove all that real life stuff out of the way and get being geeky again!

I suggest that you discuss this with your group. If a new player is spoiling the game for the others, they should change their behaviour or be asked to leave. You don't need to put up with that kind of crap. (And, incidentally, if he gets away with it, he'll come away with unhealthy ideas about where the border is between flirting and sexual harassment).

Well he was well older than the rest of us (21, I think, while the rest of us average about 16). It isn't an issue anymore though, because he recently moved out of state after he was evicted.

I think there were lots of people. Just to give a few examples, me, my sister, my mum, my dad, the entire population of Africa... the list goes on.

I got an email just over a week ago from a guy named Marc.

Apparantly he did a google search for "Calistoga D&D", and this topic came up. He explained that he was a DM here in little Calistoga (pop. 6000), and had found a coupla other guys who were interested in playing.

I called him, and he explained what his plans were and stuff, and we made a date for last saturday.

To make a long story short, it was ######ign sick. W ended up playing for 12 hours, and I hate a great time. All the guys were cool, not complete social outcasts as I had expected, and it went smoothly. We're playing again this coming saturday.
