On the subject of plastic spoons, back in high school there would be class parties from time to time where everyone would have to sign up to bring stuff (I know everyone knows what I'm talking about, I'm just adding extraneous details because that's what I do. I also go off on tangents within parenthesis, but we'll save that for another post). I would always sign up to bring spoons. As such I ended up going through some connections in the wholesale plastic utinsil industry and ended up with a very large cardboard box (probably around 5ft square, I kept it under a tarp) full of smaller cardboard boxes each containing 500 plastic spoons each (I think that the total was 50,000 spoons, I'd bring one box per party). So I happily went along volunteering spoons whenever they were needed until one of my teachers gave me **** about only volunteering to bring spoons and not something useful like a large plate full of Rice Krispies Squares or a large vat of strawberry jam or something. He told me that I had better supply enough spoons for everyone to have two. Now this was the first party I attended in this fellow's class so he wasn't aware that I usually brought enough for everyone to have a dozen or so, but I decided that I was going to do this correctly and emptied 10 boxes of spoons (that would be 5000 spoons for those of you who don't like to multiply) into a large garbage bag and showed up real early for class. This class was directly after lunch (why we were having a party directly after lunch is beyond me, but I digress), so the room was deserted. I poured out my five thousand spoons (you may want to remember now that I got these for free, I traded a fellow a case of Keebler Wheat flavored Tosted Crackers for them back when I was working for Keebler and could get my hands on some boxes of Wheat Tosted Crackers, so I didn't care) into a big pile on top of his desk then waited for the class to show up. The results were rather droll, and (luckily) he thought so too. I'm down to around a box and a half now (I donated quite a few to a middle school where my uncle is a principal) which is rather sad.
