You know, that makes me want to ask:

what does [sic] mean? I see it everywhere.

As for Carinae: I saw him post on JC the other day. The last ATT topic that he posted on was "Viginity". He said that he hated sleeping with vigins because they bleed everywhere, and then you have to burn the sheets. The person who posted next (I believe that their name started with an "a", but I am not sure) said "I wondered when you would find this topic."

That was all from memory.

[sic] is a statement that an editor or writer can place into a direct quote from someone or some source that shows that a misspelling within the quoted material is, in fact, a misspelling in the quoted material and not an editing (or spell checker error nowadays) mistake.

For example, if you were editing a car magazine and you saw in a to-be-published letter to the editor that someone had written, "I once saw a Studabaker in Reno which caused my head to damn near get eaten by a jumbo prawn in my spinach salad!" you would publish it as "I once saw a Studabaker [sic] in Reno which caused my head to damn near get eaten by a jumbo prawn in my spinach salad!" Misspelling "Studebaker" would be quite a stupid thing to do if you were an editor of a car magazine and would probably end up with you being fired from a cannon into the Sun, so you would want to place the [sic] in there in order to show that the writer of the letter was the super-dumbass and not you.

I think so.

It really sucks to have a boring sig. You know, the kind that drones on forever and never really says anything. I try my best to never have one of those. Every time I make a new sig I try to get it to be a truly outstanding sig. Some people have sigs like that. With neat (EVula) links and stuff. Witty quotes are good too. But then some people have really, really, boring sigs that you'd die before reading more of. They just go on, and on, and on...those sigs really annoy me. I mean, they say nothing and nobody really cares anyway! I pity the people who have those.

Exactly like that.

Like many journalistic devices, [sic] has found its way into common usage. These days, it's used not only to signal spelling mistakes, but also grammatical errors and even dubious or incorrect statements, in your own as well as other's language. For instance -

µ, a sparing yet educational poster [sic].

I was actually wondering where she ran of to...

Maybe I scared her away (note, my return marks her exit).

She didn't post a farewell post, therefore a question mark hangs over her return.

Well, it might just be me, but I wouldn't trust any computer company named Wonky. I'd think that they'd be prone to screw up and not allow access to our lovely little community here. Posted Image

The lack of capitals were meant to suggest that "wonky" was not intended to be taken for a brand name.

My inclusion of a winking smilie face in the post was meant to convey that I intended for my comment to be humourous and cause much merriment and hysterical laughing amongst the huddled masses. Now they're all going to hang themselves because you took away the one glimmer of hope left in their lives. You, my good sir, suck Spam. Posted Image
