What's painful about motor oil? It smells bad, but it is a good lubricant.

Yes, FOR THAT.

What, is there something wrong with using an automobile?

(incidentally, "automobile" sounds way cooler if you stress the "ile" instead of the "aut")

You know, that reminds me of a video I saw once. The kind of video you can't link to on a public forum. Let's just say it involved a gear shift.

It was a very amusing video.

If he/she was actually shifting gears whilst the car was in motion, that would be extremely impressive.

What percentage of cars in America are automatics?

Over here Auto's are the minority. I have an automatic driving licence, because I don't like manuals. Means I can't drive a manual, but I've managed to get by without that.

Do you guys have one type of driving licence, or two?

Actually we have several. There are different licenses for motorcycles, trucks (lorries), buses, etc.
But I don't think there are two different types for Automatic and Manual cars though. There may be some state out there that does it but I don't think so.

There aren't different licenses for stick v.s automatic.

Too many people drive automatics - though it just makes me cooler, since I can drive stick.

Around 93% of new cars in 2003 (latest year I seem to be able to find stats on) were automatics. Given that there are a lot of older cars kicking around, I'd probably guess that the total number of autos on the road is somewhere between 85 and 90%. My first two cars were manuals, and I'm probably not going to go back now that I've done the automatic bit for a while.

Tie her to a chair and force feed her nothing but bugs until she gets used to it. Then give her bacon.

Really? That high? Wow.

I really prefer manual cars, but, paradoxically, I also love Buicks. Dilemma.

Well, I figure an automatic transmission isn't worth the extra few hundred bucks.
