I decided I'd try mrxak's way and make a topic and come up with an idea after I start it.

Okay, I've got my idea. What is your writing utensil of choice? Personally, I don't think anything can beat a nice blue ballpoint pen.

A good pen is nice, but I think I prefer mechanical pencils.

Pens > Pencils (of any kind). I hate pencils.

I have some really nice retractable pens. :P

I also prefer pens. When I must use a pencil, though, mechanical is the one, true way.

I have a "space pen" that's quite nice. Can write in in any direction and even underwater. Mostly I just use a mechanical pencil though.

In the past I preferred a standard wooden pencil, but lately I've been using black retractable Papermate Profiles almost exclusively:

Mechanical pencil. Can be erased and will never get shorter.

Mechanical pencils are vastly superior in every way. I only ever use pens to sign my name.

This is true. The only pencil I am ever willing to use is a mechanical pencil.

I had a joke pen once. If anyone tried to use it, it exploded and bits landed across the room. On April Fool's Day, my teacher was correcting my work and borrowed a pen from me. It just happened to be my rocket pen. Luckily, she had a sense of humour, so I didn't get in trouble when the cap smashed a lightbulb.

[EDIT] Oh, yeah, topic in hand.
I love mechanical pencils! I never, ever write with a normal pencil. Never ever ever.
My favourite writing utensil? A keyboard. Apart from that, good old ballpoints. Black for preference. Makes my abominable handwriting merely untidy.

Liquid ink ballpoints, black or blue.

Heh, those pens where you push on the top and it shocks you are very fun to play jokes on people with.

Those are fun. I prefer a good old wooden pencil, but mechanical ones are nice.

Ballpoints are the most reliable pens, and last a good month or so.

A good mechanical pencil is great. Otherwise pens are superior to lead.

normal wood pencils are only good for lighting a small fire in the middle of math class because they DON'T BELIEVE IN F***ING HEATERS AT THIS SCHOOL! ARRRRRG!

Go to a different school, then wear a jacket. Your parents won't beg for you to go back to spending their money.

If it can't be sharpened, it's not worth using. And private schools are only bad insofar as they are stodgy, conservative, and do not treat their students with respect. Which is, sadly, the norm for them.

SA, you hit the nail on the head.

... except for the whole thing about how pencils are better than pens. I disagree with you there.
