I thought support for Ares had been discontinued, but maybe I was wrong. Does anyone know more about this, like how well under classic Ares runs and how "smooth" multiplayer performance is?

I take it its also not the version on the website, am I wrong there too?

I gave up trying classic games in OS X after what I saw 10.3 do to EV. :P

I use my windoze laptop with Basilisk II to play Ares and EV now. It's nice, though I need my extended keyboard to play Ares.

So long as I don't have to do any networking (Ethertap got killed somewhere between Linux kernels 2.6.8 and 2.6.16), I can play Ares on my Linux box under Basilisk.

Rule 1 of Linux kernels: keep your old one handy. Failure to comply will likely result in anything from a broken feature to an unbootable system.

I know savvy people can run Ares on Basilisk, but has anybody tried playing under Classic?

For this week only, I'm offering a perfect condition Dedicated Ares Box 2.0. It's a beige desktop box with included 15in monitor that runs Ares in its original, perfect glory! Act now, only $99.95!*

*Shipping and handling not included. Dedicated Ares Box may exhibit a passing resemblance to a PowerMac 7500, but any such resemblance is entirely incidental. Ares license code not included.

Yes. Basically, you can't. It'll run but it's nearly unplayable.

There is an unofficial version that runs well under classic:

Hello-
Actually send David an email at help@AmbrosiaSW.com he will have a version of Ares that should be more playable under Classic.

So if you do that I'm assuming you can get it. However, as I said in that topic, it will not run on Intel Macs.

That's the post I linked to, where I first heard about it. My question is, how well? Has anyone played that version?

I played the first few levels; it runs nicely on my G4 iMac. Levels load in half a second.....

So, let's see. I can't play Civ IV and I can't play Ares. That's a new game and an old game. I guess I'm stuck with stupid flash games from now on.

Make sure not to invite LifeKnight.
