I wouldn't try them while driving. That would just be a bad idea.
At least, not until I've walked around outside a bit with them.

Why would that be a bad idea? Put them on and if you can see out of them you can drive with them. Additionally, since they're wrap-around you can actually see more while driving as you have the prescription improving your peripheral vision along with just what's in front of you.

But I have heard that you lose prescription sunglasses very quickly. So I say no.
How is it that sunglasses being prescription makes them any more prone to loss? Short of someone breaking into my car and taking my glasses, I can't invision how I would go about losing them. Indeed, I'd think that just the opposite would be true. Most people really would be averse to losing their $300 investment in their prescription sunglasses, so would look after them that much more than their $10 specials from Wal-Mart and, in general, lose them much less frequently.
In any event, I've found that insane coatings on glasses really are worth the extra cash. My regular glasses are Essilor Crizal Alize Next-Gen Transitions with an anti-scratch coating. No reflections, easier to clean, scratch resistant, and change color in the sun. Hell, they're preferable to being able to see without glasses.
