Hey, thanks for all the help so far.

But now I am really stumped at how to get the story to progress. I have completed every mission except "Find the source of Kesh" and "Cure Alaric" (and the Wine Contract, but I understand that this one never really gets solved). I've found all sorts of goodies (Mystical spear, helm, two crystal balls...) and have all sorts of clues as to what might be going on. But, well, now what?

The last thing I did was talk to give the Timeflux book and some kelp to Charax. He keeps talking about ajusting the earth's polarity, or something, but every day he tells me to come back later because he hasn't figured it all out yet. So that seems a dead end.

I solved poor Opheltius' murder, and know about the shapeshifter, but when I go to Kosha to try to confront him (or house Comana) there's no one around! So that seems a dead end.

I've got this lyre (from the wizard's rooms beneath Cademia) and know that there's a lock somewhere that Demodocus keyed the lyre to with Bryaxis's magic, but I haven't found it. In fact, i suspect that Demodocus is the key to many things because he is mentioned a lot, but although I have tracked him (via rumors) to Kosha, well, he's not there. So that seems a dead end, too.

Let's see, aside from all the missions, I have explored Abydos, the Cult of Scylla ruins, and Lich stronghold. (I'm still working on the Undead stronghold...wow, you can kill lots of undead with a fireball, but they keep coming back for more!)

I haven't paid much attention to the ruffian stronghould in the southern mountains...?

Anyway, any hints would be welcome. And before you say it, I know about Slayer's guide, and have used it, but all I want now is a nudge in the right direction, not a bald list of what to do.

:P Thanks!

There are still a few quests you can do, probably.
Have you...
  • Been to the mine owned by house Attis?
  • Gotten two pieces of the crolna and combined them?
  • Found the fur cloak?
  • Finished exploring everything? (example: Omen's Quarters; Eionus's cave; under Pynx)
  • Explored the cave under Land King Hall?
  • Walked through the Great Swamp?
  • Finished the Eionus quest?
  • Been to Land End's Volcano?
Those aren't in a particular order. Those are just some nudges in the right direction, I hope. I can elaborate on a certain one, if you should like. I would also recommend going through everything in the Ruffian Stronghold.

Did you get the fur cloak or Machaon's ring (it is in with the lyre-search the clothes)? The lyre is used to open a door in the sewer-I don't remember the notes.
It is a set of panpipes that open a secret door somewhere in Kosha. You can get the pipes by asking around in Odemia.
If you haven't already done the ruffian camp, do it and talk to the judge.
From what you say, you can't have all of the Crolna yet. To get Charax to help you need all of the Crolna, a piece of kelp (which you have), and a mushroom. If you get stuck looking for these, I can tell you where they are.
Have you finished the Maayti quest?
Do you have Timon with you?
This isn't necessary, but have you talked with Ur-Sylph or Ignae?

I believe that the notes are in a book in Catamarca, but they are not the correct notes.
Yes, Demodocus tells you that pipes are needed. You can eventually find him at Cademia; instead of the tavern, he is at Bryaxis's house.
The fur cloak is inside the door that the lyre opens in the sewer. It takes you into the building in Cademia that you can't enter above ground. You'll have to search to find the cloak. The ring is in not in this building. It is in the other one.
The fourth piece of the Crolna is below Kosha. This also where you solve the Source of Kesh quest. I'd save before going down.
Do you have the mushroom? Someone has to give it to you.

I think Demoducus is on the bridge after you get Mellanger. I see him there every time I cross, just walking back and forth. (That must be really boring.) I don't think that he's there at night, but I'm not sure. Does he eventually leave?
I used to have some marbles. Now I've lost them.

No, no one hase given me a mushroom.

I cleared out the Ruffian stronghold today, but found no Judge to talk to. There was a 'fighter' who looked like Hector in an office, and a balcksmith in a forge, but neither one would talk to me. ("You are met with a stony silence"--even after I charmed him!) I did find interesting papers in a chest in the office, tho.

It sounds like I need to get in touch with the elusive Bard...I will keep searching for him at his friend's house, thanks.

A ring, you say, is not in the room with the fur cloak, but "in the other one." Another room in Cademia?

:P

You probably get the mushroom after getting the full Crolna.
I meant the judge in Odemia.
Another room below Cademia. There are two secret trapdoors within the city. You had to have been there to finish the Sapphire Book quest. It is the area with the golem and levers. Search the clothes in the dresser to find the ring. (I usually wear it along with Omen's ring; it helps your health somehow.)
Have you been to the Tyrant's tomb?

I searched day and night for Democodus, but to no avail.
You may find it is a bug that he dissapears after a certain quest has been completed. I suppose it could also be some deeper part of the storyline (Larrisa and Joppa, for instance) but I am somewhat doubtful.

I have searched for Democodus before. I eventually caught up to him at Cademia. You might be able to get the pipes without talking to him. Just say "pipes" to everyone in Odemia, until you get an answer. If you don't know the necessary notes, I can tell you.

Another point - the Wine Contract mission is not meant to be completed. But it's not a random decision that it's there, nor is it a random decision that it can't be completed. Consider what you're supposed to get out of it.

Another room below Cademia....Search the clothes in the dresser to find the ring.    Whoops, I think I lost it. I took all the clothes out and use the dresser to store raw materials for potions.  Good thing it's not crucial to the story!

I finally found him. It seems to work like this: Demodocus is in Land King's Hall when you arrive, but departs soon after. You see him next on the bridge to Cademia, and he mentions the troubles that House Attis is having with their mine. After that, you have to keep following the rumor of his passing by talking to inkeepers. They will tell you he just left, or he was heading to some other city. His path seems to be Odemia, Catamarca, Cademia, Kosha, (this is where I lost him at first) Pynx, Odemia, then to Cademia and his friend Bryaxis' house. He won't move on to the next location until you ask for him at the previous location. But you can catch up with him eventually, with Bryaxis.

Yes, now that I have been beneath Kosha I can't help but wonder All well and good, but what did they need all that wine for??

Thanks so much for all your advice!

The walkthrough for the find source of kesh mission is at:

http://www.macclassi...thera/mKesh.htm

Note while down there you can also get a harpy egg needed for the find harpy egg for Pheres mission.
