Episode IV, A new WebGame

It was a dark time for the Cythera Web Board. The Team Stories, once the stalwart defenders of the board that prevented its fall into inactivity were dead, destroyed by the dark forces of entropy and procrastination.

But then, a new web game was given to the people of the board -
and it was called the ‘Cythera RPG.’ Posted Image

<------------------------>
Okay, enough with the star wars thing...
I have an idea...
*Watches as Ody cowers and flees*

We could have a Cythera RPG on the web board.. it would be almost as good as a MMORPG, and would combine the fun of a TS with the fun of an RPG.
It would be much like a TS, but with some rules for combat, and one perticipant would be designated the Game Master. S/he would design a plot for the quest, and control the exicution of the rules for combat.

Obviously, such an undertaking will require considerible thought, but I think we can manage...

Any ideas?

Actually, a few of us already tried something like that over on Play-by-Web, but nobody really wanted to be GM, so it failed. I'd be willing to give it another go, though.

I could GM, I suspose... We could turn JA into a RPG. But we'd need some rules, an RPG system.

Hmm, maybe we wouldn't even have to use the Cythera universe... it would be fun to make up our own...

Okay, How complicated do you want the rules to be?
I.e. do with have like four stats, or do we have like 20?
I am favoring less stats, so the combat engine will not get in the way of the Role-Playing, but more intricate simulations have their merits, so lemme know...

It depends on the people you want in. Someone like Moonshadow would be more interested in the Role-Playing, while someone like me would favor more stats. You'd need a fair mixture of both to do well. And if you had some experience doing this, that would help too. (bad memories)

Er, experiance? Heh, mostly with RPGs of my own design. I tended to favor ones with simple stats, so the math didn't get in the way of play.

On the other hand, most of the people here seem to favor more complex stats. At any rate, Ferazel and I are designing a new RPG system, and it should be finished soon, if I can get ahold of ferazel, we might be done today.

I agree with Avatara. We should have enough stats to be realistic, but also leave enough space for role playing. Anyway, I'm going to upload DiceApp2 to my iDisk. Anyone who wants to use it is welcome to.

It's a little program with a simple GUI. It asks you for a dice type, number of die, and the addend. You click roll, and it rolls its little internal dice. The limit for the addend or number of dice is 999.

This sounds really cool, so I'm definatly in. Perhaps I could DM "Teraknorn"... Posted Image

Okay, Still working on the rules. I think multiuser-AIM may be better suited to our needs, as the board might presnet continnuity promblems, if, for example, two people both say they attack the creture, then the GM comes along and calculates the combat and it turns out that the first attack killed the creture. What then?

First of all, if you use the webboard it'll be slow, and you have people take turns. Once Player x's turn is resolved (including combat) player y can post their move.

Second, almost everyone here has IRC, very few people have AIM...

You do, ferazel does, Kat does, I do, Ody does, I *think* moonshadow does, cache... I don't think he does. But isn't hard to get. If mr. somebody is interested, he could get it too. I have no clue if slayer uses AIM...

Still, if we use IRC, ody will never let me hear the end of it, and will probobly insist that since I use it to play the RPG then I can use it all the time to chat, ect, which I REALLY don't want. I'd rather have it be slow and on the boards, or through multiuser ICQ, which has some good fetures...

Moonshadow does not, neither does cache at this time. Yet, all the people you mentioned have IRC (except you). Not to mention, most of us use IRC a lot more than AIM and it doesn't require installing anything special into your system, its just an application.

IRC is fine, IF ody will agree not to use it as an excuse to nag me about using IRC for other things.

Done. But I am still not coming on to do anything other than handle the RPG - I said no and I mean it. IRC for me is only a vehical to run the RPG with.

which gives the basics for what the roleplaying system actually used in Cythera is based on...

cache needs an AIM account, he has iChat. Kat needs to find a client that allows her to talk with more than one person at once.

I haven't tried setting up iChat - yet - but it might be the one thing that could convince me to sign up for an AIM account. On the other hand I might just wait for the next version which, rumour has it, should support more protocols - like ICQ and IRC.

Ok, whoever wants to join, just post saying your character's name and race. We'll work out classes and stuff later.

[sidenote: races available are Human, Elf, Habnabit, Seldane and Dwarf. Human is well balanced, Elves are a bit smarter, and can use magic, Habnabits are quick learners and are accurate, Seldane are very smart and can attack well, and Dwarves aren't as smart and very damaging.]
