Ambrosia Software, Inc. released today the Coldstone game engine that brings professional-quality game building tools to the masses. No programming is required to produce polished, stand-alone games that run on Mac OS, Mac OS X, and Windows -- all that is needed is your imagination:

http://www.AmbrosiaS...ames/coldstone/

Imagine a set of powerful yet easy to use tools for constructing your very own stand-alone game... no rules... a completely blank sheet of paper on which to pen your masterpiece, your imagination is the only limit on what you can create. This is exactly what Beenox, in conjunction with Ambrosia Software, Inc., is bringing to you with the Coldstone game engine. Want to see for yourself? You can download a demo version and get started right now!

I must say I'm a little wary of it, because of things said on the Coldstone Board. Still, I'll give it a shot!
Thanks, andrew!

What things are those, specifically? No one has seen it until today.

Mostly things about it being impractical to have a day-night cycle, lighting effects and such. I've tried it now, and I must say it is five times better than I expected it to be. Still, I think I'll be writing my own game engine for the RPG i'm working on.

Good work, though. Very intuitive[sp?] and easy to get around in.

Good luck -- writing an engine is extremely non-trivial.

Thanks. I've already made several partily semifunctional prototypes for drawing the map, lighting effects, and such. Still, you're quite right - it's not a easy task to take on.

(4) I plan to make the engine avalable free to the masses if they want to use it for free games. If they want to make a game they are going to charge for (Shareware or commercial) then I want a cut Posted Image

Hey, cool- I've heard a lot about Coldstone, but didn't know what it was until I asked Iridium today Posted Image It sounds really neat, at least. Anyhow, that would explain why the boards are so slow today. :P

Yayness! Yet another game I've been waiting for for years. Won't get it now--too many people doing that, and so far, I only have wireless dial-up. Posted Image

Bryce, I tried to, but it said that "ambrosiasw.com" isn't a server. Then, when I did get a correct link, my connection periodically timed out.

Coldstone is great, so easy to use. Maybe a team project should be started on a Cythera two?.
Let's just say I had a little insight, into the cards. Next time bring a deck that isn't transparent to infared light.

I think Glenn Andreas should have somthing to say about that. On the other hand, it's hard to resist a 'expanded universe' Cythera with the new places invented in the TSes...

On another hand, I also have to insist that such a game would have to have a day-night cycle, though perhaps not a graphical one, just somthing so people can go to their beds insteed of being awake 24/7

Some of us are thinking about making games based off of the TSes. As for the day/night cycle, there's probably a workaround but it might be rather complicated.

I have to agree with you there, Glenn Andreas should have a say, however I don't think he would mind it..... According to coldstone manuals etc.. as Avatara said we could make a day/night cycle though it would be complicated...

It dosen't have to be a graphical day/night cycle, just a 'clock' so some people come out only at night, ect.

That's what i'm saying. I should be a graphical cycle, but it isn't 100% nessesary.
The actual cycle is much more important than the graphics that go with it, although they relly add a lot to the effect.

You mean coldstone dosen't support any kind of timer? Even a move conter!
Or can it not adjust the positions of charicters/objects based on the contents of a varible?

Either way, it seems that this would make it almost useless for anything but a PoG-Like 'Hack-n-Slash'!

Urg!
