Ambrosia Software Web Board: The Search for the Thieves' Cavern - Ambrosia Software Web Board

A number of people from the tavern have decided to come to a new topic to recruit new members for their quest. They planned to reach the Thieve's cavern, to the south of Cythera. Getting there would be difficult, but members thought it would be worth it to retrieve Slayer's magical crystal which had apparantly been stolen by a member of the Theive's guild.

A young and lightly built scimitar-weilding man comes to the small field where he heard people were to group for a quest. His name was Diochos; seeing no one else was there yet, he patiently waited.

Slayer, naturally, shows up on the field. As he walks, the sun glints off the obsidian encrusted into his armor. He notices the other person in the field and speaks: "Greetings, I am Slayer." Diochos introduces himself, and reveals that he is here to help Slayer and the others on their upcoming adventure. Slayer responded by saying, "I'm glad that I am not alone in this endeavor. I have the feeling we may need all help we can get, especially if the thieves manage to unlock the secret of the crystal." Slayer finds a tree stump in the field and sits, waiting for more people to arrive.

Shortly after Slayer and Diochos had introduced themselves Katze walked onto the field. After also introducing herself she grinned at both of them. "Well, I thought if you were going to a thieves' hide-out, you might need someone like me." she said with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes.

Suddenly, Rogan came running towards the others. Quicksilver instantly drew his weapon, but was fast to put it down as he realized it was a friend. "I thought I was late" said Rogan and looked around. "I had to go home and fetch my other set of daggers and more wine" he continued as he put his dagger belt on, across his torso. Rogan introduced himself to Quicksilver and Diochos and shaked their hands. He then sat down on a stump, waiting for more adventurers to join...

"You know, Diochos... if my past should be of any importance during our quest, I'll tell you. But until then..." Katze sits down on a rock, takes out her dagger and begins to sharpen it.

Magpie walks over to the smalll party and sits down. "Don't worry i already know all your names" he grins and waves a hand of dissmissal at Katze before she asked how. " So we are off to the thieves cavern?" they party nodds. " And in search of what?" asks Quick silver. "Slayers crystal" Magpie replies "And of great importance it is to, no matter where it came from" Magpie grins once again.

Katze looks at Magpie suspiciously. "And how come you know all those... interesting things?"

"I propose we get going... it's already the fourth hour of noon, and we should start moving before it's too late. I believe we have enough people to complete the quest," Talos said.

"I agree with you that we should get going! These are definately no ordinary thieves... they rem- there seem to be some fairly powerful magic users among them, judging from Talos and this 'Invisible' thing..."
All others look at her questionngly. "Invisible thing?" Rogan finally asked.
"Well, yeah, just after the attack on Talos I ran to the window, and outside I saw this spot with air flimmering, just like in the midday sun and -"
"But it's almost evening!" Quick Silver interrupted.
"Exactly what I said." Katze nodded. "Unluckily, Avatara and the second attack in the Tavern kept me from investigating in this matter."
Slayer speaks up: "Well, so whoever they are, they-"
"Hey! WAIT!" Someone suddenly screams. The group turns to see an about 10-year-old girl run in there direction. "You can't go yet!" she screamed. "I have a very important message for you, from the Tavern, from Moonshadow and Tycho Maudd!"
Everyone looks at the child. "So, what is it?" Slayer asks.
"Well, she told me to tell you that her investigations of Talos braought up that he's cursed, and you need to bring the one who cursed him here so that he can remove the curse!"
"WHAT?!?!" Everyone asks.
"Well, that's what I was to tell you."
"But how do we find whoever cast that curse?" Magpie wondered.
"The girl shrugged. "Dunno. I only know what I told you. Good luck!" With that she ran off, back to the tavern.

Diochos quickly put two and two together and asked, "Most likely, the disappearance of Slayer's crystal is related to Talos's curse... it may not be so hard to find the caster, if he has some relation, or is even the same person, who took the crystal. The thieves and ruffians down there in the south are known to have magic capabilities; some are even rogue mages exiled from the Pnyx."

The rest of the group thought for a few seconds, before Slayer spoke up, "Diochos, that may be possible... just as many other things can be possible. Unfortunately, we have no proof. We could say anything is true if we allow there to be no proof behind it."

Quickly the party took sides with either Diochos or Slayer.

"I would agree with Slayer!" Katze said. "This is not the work of an 'ordinary' band of thieves, with an additional mage or two. They are not as rare as the officials think they are, at least not since the discovery of Kesh..." she shuddered at the thought. "Anyways, they - whoever they are - are surely more organized than the 'normal' gangs... they're style reminds me of something..."
"Of what?" Slayer asked.
"I don't quite remember it... it's a story I heard some time ag, about a gang of thieves... but I can't remember the details." She rubs her temples. "Oh, I don't remember!! Something about the Dragon Fang, or a Dragon's fang or something... don't know, it's probably not important..."
She sits down again.

"Well, if you people insist, I'll agree that the two are different groups... but we are probably not going to leave today, so I'm going to get us some food. We're closer to the forest than town, and we don't have much money anyway, so who wants to go hunting with me?" Diochos asked. An eerie silence ensued, and Diochos went off into the forest, muttering about "the dirty cheapskates".

"The Cavern should not be to difficult to trace"
"How so?" questioned Slayer looking around the place as if it was to be found near by. "Well every Mage puts out a small amount of magick that you can trace if you are trained, as i am. A bit like a dog on a strong scent" The others asked him if he could sense anything right now. To this he replied "Because i can't it probably means that they are underground or have some sort of smothering spell"
"Tell us when you can feel some thing"

The night passed uneventfully for the group. Diochos came back about an hour after he left carrying a unicorn carcass on his back. It was quickly divided and cooked, everyone in the group getting a share of the meat. Since they were still close to civilized areas, they decided it might be a good idea to let everyone get a full night's rest. Rogan, the big pusher of the idea, gave everyone a free swig from his wine. Each found a good place to sleep, and snoozed by the dying embers... one would be gone by morning.

In the cool morning-hours a silent figure came walking into the camp. He shuddred to a stop as he felt the cold tip of a sword against his neck. "Hold it right there, stranger" said Rogan.
"I've come to aid you in your qest"
"What quest and why shold we trust someone who sneaks up on us?" asked Rogan while the others in the camp (who'd awoke by the discussion) listened intrested.
"The quest that Horc told me about." As he said the name a small greyish pideon swoped down from the sky and sat on his shoulder.
"As to why you should trust me. I've waited a long time to revenge my brother, who died by the thieves hands."
Rogan put away his knife and asked his companions, "well what do you say? Can we trust.. Hey, what's your name by the way?"
"Rack."
"Can we trust him?" Rogan asked again.

Confusion reigns. Please advice.

Katze looked at the stranger doubtfully. "Well, I don't know. Your reason sure sounds convincing, and I don't have anything against you joining us. In fact I'm very sure that we'll need all the help we can get against them... but mind you, there are a lot of thieve gangs to the south, and there's no warranty that the gang we hunt and the gang you hunt are the same.
Rack nodde. "I know. But there's the chance that they are."
Katze nodded contently. "Very well. That's good enough for me to trust you - for now."

In the rush of the morning and the coming of rUmbler, no one seemed to notice the dissapperance of two members. In fact, no one noticed that anyone was gone until QuickSilver asked for a swig of Rogan's wine... and then realized that there was no Rogan there. He quickly informed the group, of which Slayer was missing too. An emergency had developed before the quest had even begun.

Slayer woke. He felt terrible, like a chariot had just run over his head...

"Ugh. I didn't drink that much wine last night..." he mumbled. He blearily opened his eyes, but it made no difference. Eyes open or shut, all he could see was blackness. Although he briefly considered the possibility that it was still night, he dismissed it on the grounds that even the darkest of nights was not solid black. As thought flooded back through the channels of his mind, he tried to get up. He could not. His hands, feet, and neck were restrained. He tried to open his mouth to yell for help, but it was covered, just like his eyes. Suddenly, a blow came to his head and he was gone again...

Rogan had not had such a good night. He had not been able to find as good a sleeping place as the others, and, although he was much better packed than the others, had forgotten to bring any good bedsheets. He found a patch of relatively dry ground, farther away from the fire than the others, and lay down on it. He tossed and turned for what seemed like hours, until he heard a rustling in the leaves by him. He ignored it, blaming it on an overactive (and somewhat drunk) imagination. Not long after, he found that he was very warm... too warm. It didn't make any sense, as the fire would only have gotten weaker and weaker as time passed. The heat became prohibitively uncomfortable, and he opened his eyes. All he could see were flames. All the leaves had caught fire.

He did not know why, but he blanked out then.

Katze jumped up, and ran to where Rogan had slept. "Look at that!" she yelled. Everyone came closer, to see the leaves were burnt. Katze wanted to take another step closer but was held back by Rack.
"Wait!" he said. "And all of you, too! Don' come closer or touch anything until I've finished investigating. You coul wipe out possible tracks!"
That made sense to everyone, so the y waited (with growing impatience) for Rack to finish.

Wait for me!.Everybody looks in the direction of the voice and see a young man with pitch black hair and is wearing a ocean blue cloack running towards them.Diochos asks:Who are you? and what are you doing here?.He replies:I'm Eldrad And i'm here to join you! that is if you are the ones going to the Thieves cavern?.
Diochos:Yeah were going to the cavern.But what makes you think we would take you with us?
Eldrad:Please! you have to take me with you!.My family was killed by thieves when i was away and i want revenge!.The others think a moment and give their reply......
