I think you sould do something the hasn't been been done in the series yet. For example, we know that Starfleet has had wars with both the Cardassians in TNG, (before the Dominion Wars) and the Romulans before TOS, but these wars don't actually take place in the show they are only mentioned by the characters in past tense.

I'm a Romulan fan myself. And there's probably the most conflict when the three big factions are the Romulans, Klingons, and Federation all fighting each other. You can work in a few TOS episodes along with it, like The Enterprise Incident.
Gorn and Tholian options would be a plus.

Or is this too early for you?

The best TOS romulan episode (that is doable in Ares) would be Balance of Terror... nothing like a cloaked romulan sneaking up on you to ruin your day

I'm currently working on a Star Trek plug-in for EV Override, but because my PowerMac died, I'm using an emulator now, and Hera happens to be PPC native and I can't run it (even though Ares works).

Though I have limited time, I'd be more than interested in beta testing it; I can probably offer any mission idea or whatever help you need; I just can't work on anything directly using Hera.

My personal opinion is that you should do the Dominion War, with some Borg trouble and Romulan intrigue thrown in the mix.

I've done and will continue to do considerable research in Star Trek (and especially its ships); if you have questions I can try to help out.

I'm also working on an LCARS-style interface for EV; if you don't have one I could try to cook something up for Ares (though my graphics skill is a bit limited...but LCARS isn't that hard to do anyway since it's mostly solid colors).

Well, I hope to hear from you, I'd like to help.

Hmm, yes, power balance I can do. I have actually downloaded a number of short video clips from various episodes to supplement the few videos I do have for Star Trek, and I should be able to judge some of these things fairly well.

Basically I feel I could serve as a sort of Star Trek consultant; though my interest in Star Trek has only bloomed recently, I think my research skills could be of some use to you.

As far as storyline goes, I'm not quite sure what your concern with the war is; it seems to me that the DS9 Dominion War stuff would fit Ares better than anything else (when was the last time you saw huge numbers of ships being sent off into battle? the Borg?). The opportunity is there for the action/strategy hybrid game structure of Ares to really implement Star Trek well.

Of course, you're the head guy, so I'll leave it up to you to decide on everything. But anyway, what's been done so far anyway? I'm sure I could offer input on what's been done already.

What has been done so far is getting all of the ships that we have sprites for up and working in the game. 2 toturial missions have been created and we are debating what to do the missions about.
