Well after looking up the "stats" of the various ships on that web site Jager asked me to make out ships match. I've almost finished the Federation Starships... It didn't take as long as I thought...

A word of caution -- just because that site is great doesn't mean you should reference it for everything. I particularly disagree with the conclusions it has on the Klingon Birds-of-Prey.

Also, I'm not sure you want to include all the ships on a very large scale. Some ships are ones we see rarely, so those are probably ones that might appear from time to time, but would never be allowed to be built. For example, you can easily build Excelsior-class ships, but New Orleans-class ships would be rather rare.

I'm thinking a behind-the-lines thing with plenty of special ops in the Gamma Quadrant for the Dominion war -- for the first several missions (after you go through some training I suppose).

After that, maybe some all-out confrontations, some stumblings-upons with the Romulan Tal-Shiar and Obsidian Order (Cardassian), and more with that...

Then eventually, after the Dominion War is over, with some pepperings of confrontations with other races, perhaps a Borg invasion where they actually take over planets instead of bee-line for Earth -- that is, if they've assimilated enough knowledge to not be so stupid.

Just my mission ideas. If anyone wants more specific ideas, I could draw out some maps and list out ships...

It'd be nice if I could get in on a real discussion, but on this topic...(and thanks, brookeview for the e-mail), I figure the Borg would probably assimilate somebody or something that would give them the "intelligence" to do a more conventional invasion of the Federation, which would indeed be quite disasterous.

And if the player character is from this race and was good enough to hold off the Cardassians with what little resources were available, I figure it would be quite reasonable to ask the player to help lead this defense/counterattack.

However, I don't think it could be done without Klingon and probably Romulan help. Any ideas on whether the Borg have adapted to disruptors yet or not?

Oh, and about websites, I have a big folder stuffed with bookmarks and stuffed, and I've gone through a good many of them already, as well as studied some video clips out of episodes and movies; I should have a pretty good idea on matchups and such. I just wish I could participate in actual development, but since my Mac broke and Hera doesn't work in Basilisk...

Last thing, before I bore you to death with this post -- every time I join a project I always warn people against the dangers of letting the project become vaporware. I've seen it countless times and I'm quite aware of the warning signs. I'm not saying anything as it seems like you guys are making good progress and all, but announcing that you're looking for beta testers this early is, well, one of these warning signs. Just thought I'd let you know.

Well, anything I can do to help, just ask. The only problem, and it's a big one, is that I can't use Hera. Posted Image

Let see a couple of things to do in this post...

First off to Jager mostly... We will be able to release the developer plugin soon... I 've redone things so they are a lot simpler and added comments to a lot of things so people can work with it easier. So I expect we could release that in tomorrow at the earliest and monday at the latest

And now to Firebird... The person you are playing being asked to help lead a defense against the Borg is a good idea that I hadn't really thought of. As for things you can do to help... Lets see... We still need a name for our alien race and neither me or Jager could think of one... but other than that... you wouldn't happen to have a sprite for a Federation fighter...

Well, as a matter of fact, I do...I made one for my Star Trek Override plug-in, but it's probably too small for your purposes (since Ares can scale graphics, can't it?). If you can't make one yourself, I would suggest going to the Neutral Zone Starship Database, http://neutralzone.f...om/indexfra.htm, to Federation starships, and click on Peregrine-class. There's some top-bottom views of it you can probably use and rotate to get a decent sprite; unfortunately it won't be angeled and look 3d like some of the other ships you've got.

Too bad Hera won't work on my computer. I'll never get over that...

Jager I just thought of how to use the transport with the spinning section to capture planets... In Star Trek you don't land troops on a planet you transport them down...

Ahh! No! Ehm, the Peregrine-class fighter and Maquis Raider are two very different ships. For some reason people confuse them (probably because the Maquis fly Peregrines too). But if you look you'll notice the Raider's much larger, and it doesn't have the twin engines hanging out the back (they're more integrated with the rest of ths ship).

Yup...

Um, my POP3 e-mail isn't working right now for some reason, and I don't want to log back into the web mail right now, but I put up the LCARS images in a zip file at site, like I said I would.

And brookeview, I have Ares, I didn't need those images...but thanks anyway I guess. When my e-mail starts working maybe I can access them instead of having to go through the load-crash-reboot-load-crash-reboot-load-yes! procedure of loading Basilisk.

Until next time...

Um sure. We are working on making a bigger one. But when you make it bigger it becomes distorted so we are just going to make a new one. (If I ever get a 3D program *HINT*HINT*HINT*)
