Let's see... maybe the activation action would create more than 1 object? :P

--Wait, I should say this: We would create multiple objects,
--as well adding delays for salvos. In other words:
--Reload: 15
--ACTIVATION ACTION
-- Create Object PBEAM Reflexive
-- Create Object NPULSE Reflexive
-- Create Object NPULSE Reflexive, Delay 5
-- Create Object NPULSE Reflexive, Delay 10

[Durandal]
Well, this topic has been as inactive as a Pfhor colony I've visited. I "convinced" the humans to stop using me so much, and have got quite a deal on second-hand Jjaro parts.

A few more, and it will be payback-day.

The f***ing Nar haven't been as cooperative, but I've got a song-and-dance routine I'll have the marine do to persuade them. That or a propperly aimed (face, certain organs, respetory or circulatory system) hand wave motion cannon.

T-Minus 15.193792102158E+9 years until the universe closes! Hopefully this will be done first, I would hate for my escape plans to be put on hold.

Balence issue time.
Currently, the Jjaro Foldship and 2 Remover escorts can take out 10 Audemedon carriers with a little luck/skill.
This IS in keeping with their position as "ultimate techological butt-kickers", but is it a little overboard?

I've almost got the Jjaro all in. Tweaking will be needed to iron out balence issues, but they might be ready for some testing by Sunday.

Well, the Jjaro are pretty much what Ambrosia would call beta - feature complete.
I've finished pretty much everything except intra-species balence. I'm going to make sure that equal costs of ships can have close fights.

Then I'll do the Nar.

How are you guys doing?

Humblest apologies, everyone, but I am going to have to drop out of this. School is taking too high a toll, and my models suck anyway.

Very sorry,

That's too bad. I can relate to the school part.

I guess this means I get to do the S'pth Kr.
Great, POV is NOT cut out for organic stuff.
Ah well, at least I'm going to be in more credits Posted Image

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Wheather it happens here or on Lh'owon's nameless inner moon matters not. Farewell.

In any case, I've dug up enough old Jjaro outposts, with a little help from my friends (or friends of a friend I should say) to piece together a full Jjaro navy. It's quite amazing - which one of 2 equally expensive sides will win is decided by luck and skill, not any namby-pamby "rock-paper-scissors" deal (all three are obsolete anyway). I'd transfer it over to you, but the comm system the humans rigged up called "email" is patheticly slow, and thus it's considered impolite to send 4.8 meg files without asking. Maybe I'll find and install a compression application.

Can POV do metaballing? If not, I'd consider it sadly inadequate for the Kr, and It also would require some good texturing... You know, I've got all of my models designed and rendered (if not assembled in Hera-ready format), maybe we could do a little juggling:

I'll take the S'pht'Kr
You'll take the groups of pics I've made for each ship, assemble them,
You'll add weapons, etc. on the Nebs, since I don't really care for that part, and
I'll debug the Jjaro, Nar, and finalize the other races, add teleporters.

Sargatanus will continue in silence designing the single player.

The two of use will create multiplayer levels.

Just a little clarification on my multiplayers:
  • Lucky 7 - the basic map; 2 opposing planets, hi-tech, 5 scattered uncolonized lo-tech
  • Crossfire - renamed Conv^rgence (reference Posted Image)
  • Fringe - Arranged like a spiral galaxy, Might vs. the Many - maybe a couple variants with different numbers of arms.
  • Core - The MIn version of LLL, Barred spiral galaxy, center base to win.
  • To the Death - Armageddon style. 5 planets randomly arranged for each player, all hi-tech. Only way to end it is to destroy all the other player's ships.
I don't think I've come up with any other good ones yet...

POV does have metaballing, but it seems to have some bugs.
I'll go for your juggling idea. Jjaro on their way to your email.
Please send me the Nebulon stuff, and I'll put them together.

Nar will be done as soon as I can. I'm thinking heavy damage, low fire rate for their guns, and very poor manuverability/speed.

Oh - 4 multi ideas:

Purity of Essence - (spot THIS refrence to Marathon? Posted Image) 1 planet each, start in a destroyer, capture the other guy - perfect for tourneys

Tactician's Delight - 1 Dreadnought, 2 Carriers, 2 Battleships, 4 Destroyers, 8 Corvettes, NO PLANETS, nothin' but tactics

KAAA-RUNCH - 2 human players as above, Jjaro computer player with same forces

Durandal v Tycho - like PoE or similar, but one side is either Humans, Kr, or Nebulons, and the other side is Pfhor or Nar.

Fatum Istum Soltarum - PoE with a different twist: If the player's ship is destroyed, then he loses. Of course, you can always switch out before destruction, but it would cause some interesting strategies.

We could also remake the multiplayer levels from Marathon using walls (and two dimensions, most likely, although I might be able to get around that), for a little bit of a retro aspect - you get the Fighter of your choice armed with just a small gun, and in place of the actual weapons, there are their pics which cause an AlterPulse and AlterBeam to switch things around.
I suppose the wepons would be modified to fit the original Marathon Concept, mostly Posted Image I'll see about getting some useful pics for that maybe, after I send over the Nebs.

Standardized notation system:
To refer to ships quickly, here's what I generally use
Race/Class
Race:
  • U - UESG
  • P - Pfhor
  • S - S'pht
  • J - Jjaro
  • B - Nebs
  • R - Nar
Class:
  • FT - Fighter
  • CV - Corvette
  • DE - Destroyer
  • BT - Battleship
  • DN - Dreadnought
  • AC - Assault Carrier
  • CS - Colony Ship
A Pfhor Corvette would be P/CV
A UESC Troopship would be U/AC

This serves the dual purpose of instructing others in the system, and allowing them to understand what I write.

Well, I got the UESG Bomber, Cruiser, and Frigate done. Cruisers are able to take out 5 fighters with difficulty, A human-piloted frigate can take out 2 cruisers with difficulty. Seems good so far...

And also, I've been using sounds from Marathon 1/2 for the weapons (well, except the Mass Driver Firing), very loud, annoying, sounds just like I want them Posted Image

I staged a little battle between the Jjaro and the UESG. I gave myself (the UESG) 2 Battlecruisers and 2 Troopships, and gave them (the Jjaro) a Sterilizer.

I did win.

But I wouldn't brag about it - my only ship remaining at the end of the battle was a single bomber Posted Image

Try it on the Dreadnought, Pallas. I had to tone down the Sterilizer so it wouldn't be more cost-effective than the Dreadnought. If you don't get your arse kicked, I might have to crank some damage ratings.

Better yet, try 3 Removers. Or a Foldship.

BTW is it correct to interpret your post elsewhere that a Jjaro ship defeated 10 Canthran Gateships without losing more than 10% shields?

There needs to be a vidmaster's challenge series of levels where the player is simply sent to destroy huge numbers of insanely powerful enemies. I think it would be hilariously funny. Nothing complicated, just a level filled with wave after wave of powerful enemies, and the player alone to kill them all.

I also think that reference needs to be made to the hilarious weapon names in Marathon. "Spanker" Missile Launchers, Waste 'em combat shotguns, Toast flamethrower, marathon was serious tounge in cheek comedy. Look in the back of the manual! "Things that rock". Why if he hadn't sold his soul to Bill Gates, Jason Jones would be ashamed of any UESC ship whose name did not make the player smile gently at the hidden meaning.

Now that I've stopped telling you all how to do your job, I'll leave you to it.

Yes, that is correct, Darkk. I used cheap tactics, I admit, but I lost only 8-9% shields.

Pharris: You're not going to look at it too much. In the game, we've only got 8 letters, and that's not enought to put in the funny parts. The full name could have that kind of thing, though. But I'm not sure the Kinlaser really should get one (Magnum .44? What joke?)
NVG-8 Kinlaser (Not very good Kinetic Laser)
SNVG-8 Rapid Kinlaser (Still not very good)
FTRKL Laser Cutter (Fighterkill)
-Mass Driver?
SHKR Fusion Missile
-Wave Motion Cannon?
Launchbay - just that.

Duh. The Jjaro should be able to kick the arses of equal cash of Audemedons at least.

The WMC is somewhat questionable, but these seem in character for Bungie:
DIDIDI Mass Driver
YHRFCKD Wave Motion Cannon

Do you think the Jjaro need a kick in the damage rating?

YRFKD.

Also, the Foldship doesn't seem to be folding ships. (Fleetwarp isn't warping fleets)

I suppose if it did my S'pht escort would have lost to it... but that's another story. I'm not sure what's wrong.

--Wait, I should ay this: I had to take out the ast 10% or so of shields in the bomber.
--I would have lost except the autotarget weapons are to slow at autotargeting. Maybe if
--You made them a little faster, I wouldn't be abe to take out the big ships in small ones.

Resource IDs (for reference) - I've moved Jjaro ships to these ranges, or will.

Maybe it's not warping because it's out of energy.
The warping DOES take a great deal of energy.
You might want to lower that some for me.

Feel free to mess with the speed of the projectiles.

Oh, how do the Jjaro Drone and its Carrier stand up against other AI Jjaro ships?
I might need to make them more worthwile.

Hmm, on second though, wait on that last part until you've added the transporters.

Well, I lowered energy to 600. Didn't work.

I increased range by a factor of 100.

That worked.

Y'know, soon we're going to actually need some beta testers, and the full implementation of an actual storyline, so:
[list=1]
[*]We might want to start signing up 3-5 testers, plus ourselves.
I might nominate Pyro, since he seems to be both interested and has a lot of practice testing plugs, and Mag for difficulty control. Posted Image
[*]I, personally, would like to hear the summary of the story from Sargatanus at some point in the near future.
[*]We can actually get to work on NetLevels now, since they're not tied in to any storyline. I'll just send the planets out sometime soon, get the teleporters, configure an action for ColsShips, and we can start! Uh-oh...
[*]I was thinking it might be appropriate to have a station for each race? What are your thoughts?

1. I nominate Pharris and 8Lightnings.
2. Me too.
3. Kiss actually working on this goodbye Posted Image.
4. The Jjaro aren't staying around very long, being elusive and fleeting. They don't need stations. The Nar planets are actually (according to something from Bungie I read awhile back) mostly buildings, and might qualify as stations. I'll think about a station. It might look a little too much like the ships, tho. I'll think about ways to differentiate the stations...

I've finally got a clue about the Nar.
Say hello to freaky and creative, but low tech.
The metaphors wouldn't fit in the long or short names, but they're fine for dev notes Posted Image.
As soon as I figure out why some of the shots are invisable, I'll start balencing them.

Pallas - how effective should the Nar be? Equal cash Gaitori? Equal cash UNS?

Also, do we need the Jjaro Habitat ship?

Also also, will there be any need for special Jjaro/Nar ships?
I had some ideas for one designed to destroy Wr'kncacter (I know I spelled that wrong), but equally effective on mere mortals...

Oh, will we need a Wr'kncacter? Its weapons are gonna be EVIL if we do put one in. Although I've got very little clue what it would look like (black, nebulous evil thingy?).
