Please keep your fleets only as defensive use in your own star systems, otherwise you may come into conflict with the League of Nations' more powerful fleets.. (and be destroyed..). Hunting down individual players is not fair play (obviously these same rules apply to the Consortium and New Alliance).

thanks.. also about my gameplay part.. I will try to follow through will some attacks, but the N.A. leader Graves has been seriously kicking my ass whenever I get into a combat worthy vessel, so I haven't been able to do much yet ;D

well, good luck! nice job on construction of your first government ship... c-ya!

Did we discuss using the defense fleet for retals?

Does that belong on the Smacklist, too?

Perhaps it was a misconception on my part. I didn't do it for personal means (I didn't even capture anything with the fleet, so he still has the 700k credits he stole to rebuild) and I would've done the same if it had been anyone. I thought if someone was attacked near our borders that's what the fleets were for. Does this mean the fleets must stay around Tralf or Danath even if UNSET members are being blown up one system away? Can we only peg them if they land on Danath? What about Turok or Montar, which implies they had to travel through our territory?

Sorry, if we clear this up now, perhaps we can avoid future mistakes.

Okay, that sounds fine.. in general the fleets were supposed to be much stronger than individual players, and serve mainly to protect players in their home system... but since recently we've seen your fleet destroyed by Volkov, and the Consortium Navy destroyed by Graves, go ahead and do whatever you need with your fleets as long as you stay near your systems and have reasonable justification for your actions Posted Image

I know that you've recieved this complaint before, Beef, but the Combat system always seems to favor the attacker. Usually the defender is destroyed before his "turn" in the combat system. And escorts never seem to play any role. Since all fleet ships are listed as *escorts*, it seems fleets are at an extreme disadvantage when they are the defenders.

I think only the LN fleet is set to auto-attack. We have to do it manually.

(Another reason why defense fleets at least appear to suck.)

Listen.. the same rules apply to everyone, so stop complaining.. It's not like they have an advantage over you.

The attacker gets the advantage that he gets the first volley. The damage is split evenly between the defender and his escorts, so if you have high shields/armour in comparision to their weapons, and a large number of escorts, you are likely to survive the first volley, in which case you get to return fire.

Now you made a good point that a lot of the time the defender doesn't survive the first volley but thats often because the attacker is superior anyways.

Now lets take an example.. Confederate bastard was in a Shrike with 4 Shrike escorts. He attacked a player who was in a Raptor with a few Runabout escorts. His first volley (4 shrikes, that's 10 laser blasters) was not strong enough to destroy the Raptor. So the Raptor got the second volley- and destroyed Confederate Bastard.

That actually happened, so you can see, the attacker doesn't ALWAYS win, but you're right, he does have a significant advantage. What you need to try to do is take advantage of the defender's situation. For example, if somebody is going to attack you, you know that they are probably stronger than you, right? Otherwise they wouldn't attack you... unless they WANTED to die. So is there any reason to stay and fight if you got ambushed? (No.) Buy a fast ship, load up on mass expansions, then fill in with shield capacitators, put cowardice on 100%, and hire your max escorts to distribute the damage. The capacitators will give you a much better chance of surviving the first volley, and your speed and 100% cowardice will get you away safetly. This will give you a higher chance of surviving pirate attacks than standing at 0% cowardice and trying to survive it.

Regarding fleets, I reccomend that you follow the intelligent move of the N.A. leader Graves, who is saving up his money before building fleets. If you create small fleets they will probably get murdered by some pirate who hired a lot of escorts. (Remember what happened to the Consortium Navy..) . Don't buy a fleet until you have enough money to buy something that is stronger than the average pirate lunatic..

I didn't write the code for the game so I all I can do is tell you how it works and give you good strategies to play the current game well.. perhaps the code can be changed in the future..

I hope this helps you-

Bah. I guess it's time to get the cruiser after all. The corvette gets put on hold for a while longer, I guess.

I just set DF#2 after Wedge, and lost Posted Image . Unfortunately, he took out one of our cruisers because of a mistake on my part. I selected "Long Range" attack, thinking that I could pummel him with heavy rockets while staying out of range of his neutron cannons, but it turns out that heavy rockets are MEDIUM and close range weapons. Therefore, our ships never got off a shot. I am taking responsibility for this error and asking CheesEv to transfer 500k from my account to the UNSET gov, so that we can buy the cruiser back.

[EDIT]: Man, I didn't even realise wedge was voided!! Well, he's not with the NSF yet, so I guess its alright...

You want to attack short-range with the cruisers. There's no guided weapons at all by default, so might as well not suffer the damage penalty and just hit with everything at short range.

Okay, I know I don't hold any official power here, but I'm putting my foot down regardless. DO NOT USE DEFENSE FLEETS FOR RETALS. Especially in systems that aren't our own. I'm going to request that whoever is officially in charge of the defense fleets change the pass for them and keep them to himself, as too many of our people are being irresponsible with them.
