You realize that most major financial intstitutions worldwide have been shut down, as well as all airports in the US, plus anything except outgoing trains in NYC.

It cuts all TV links to the classrooms, because "not enough work is being done".
You know, the sky was a lot darker today.

Personally I don't think that anything "dangerous" will be repressed. Airline security might start get pretty close to a strip-search, and anything "dangerous" removed there, but for day-to-day activities I don't think much will change for the time.

Unfortunately, the problem is greater than that. It doesn't matter how nicely America markets its foreign policy if that policy remains "American interests first, and American interests only".

True. It's a fall out of their Cold War policies.

This is America. Whose interests should we put first?
American foreign policy is just an excuse used by the masterminds of these operations. Osama Bin Laden does not care so much about seeing America pay for it's crimes, but instead wants to start a war he knows will increase his power.
As for aggresive foreign policies, countries have constantly warred amongst themselves. If those aren't aggresive foreign policies, I don't know what are.

But American foreign policy has hurt a lot of people, especially in this decade. It's one thing to have your country's interest the #1 priority, but it's another matter entirely to have no regard for those who could suffer from it. Sometimes things happen that we can't foresee, but it's a crime to let an atrocity happen, turn a blind eye to it, and allow it to continue and reoccur. The latter is the driving motive of the terrorists, and part of me can empathize for them. But this is an explaination for their actions and by no means an excuse. Their acts are still diabolical, regardless of their reasoning.
And just because other countries have beligerant foreign policies doesn't mean we have to as well.

America has been a powerful force for good in history, being (relatively) swift to adopt such vital ideas such as freedom of speech, equal rights for all, and so forth. Unfortunately, this has made many Americans arrogant, and this arrogance has caused a lot of damage to foreign countries. That's why anti-US sentiment is so strong world-wide. Hell, I live in Australia, and even here a lot of people are getting frustrated with America's belligerence in international policy.
The United States of America needs to learn to get along a bit better with its peers.
That said...
Nothing justifies killing innocent people. No self-interested meddling, no unthinking arrogance, no "lack of morality" will ever justify such sickening, evil actions. And Bush is right on one thing, for all his short-sighted mistakes on other matters- bin Laden needs to be brought to justice. And if anyone wishes to defend his actions, they must be prepared to suffer the consequences.

Talking of constitutional rights. To those who think that people should be allowed to carry guns on planes, it IS NOT a right to carry arms. It is a right to carry arms AS PART OF A LOCAL MILITA. Anaway, whats to stop a non law abiding citezen from taking his gun on board?

Actually, more of what I was trying to say was that passengers should be required to carry some sort of weapons on planes. Seeing as missed shots from guns could depressurize everything and such, I've started thinking knives. I think airport security works the wrong way. People can still smuggle weapons through, and then it's easy for them to hijack planes, as they're the only ones with weapons. If everybody had a weapon, hijackers would have to be able to hold off a crapload of passengers if they wanted to be successful.
And on the morality of the terrorists' actions, I don't think anybody can really be truly evil and wrong, etc.. People just can't do things against their own moral values without feeling guilty. In this case, the terrorists thought that they were doing the right thing, sacraficing their lives for a noble cause and such. People that do this sort of thing are mentally sick or are having very very strong emotions about things, hate being the emotion in this case. And I think that hate has been spurred by the US fiddling around in the middle east in matters where it has no business and generally screwing things up for a lot of people over there.
