I assume you're referring to the World Trade Center/Pentagon/Pittsburgh bombing?

You realize that most major financial intstitutions worldwide have been shut down, as well as all airports in the US, plus anything except outgoing trains in NYC.

Well, from what I can tell, they're either trying to get the US into a war with Afganistan an its allies or they're giving the US what they think it deserves. I think it's just amazing how all it took them was about twenty people with pistols to pull that off, and how they actually managed to kamikaze the Pentagon, which should be pretty damn hard. My guess is that whoever the government decides did it will dissapear very quickly, and if it was another country, war will be declared.

Actually, Mag, they didn't even have pistols! (At least not the ones that hijacked the planes that hit the WTC.)

They managed to shoot a couple of the flight attendants on one of the planes, which had me thinking they had pistols. Oh well.

Box cutters! They used ****ing box cutters! They used resources that were legally available to them. Do you folks have any idea what's going to happen to personal liberties in the US after this? Anything deemed by the powers that be as "dangerous" will be condemned and repressed with zealous force. Those terrorists were geniuses; They have now planted the potential to screw this country over from the inside. And now it looks like the whole world will feel the effect of the terrorists decisions.

This is history in the making, and do you know what my school does?

It cuts all TV links to the classrooms, because "not enough work is being done".

You know, the sky was a lot darker today.

Our school's T1 link was in WT7 apparently. At least it stayed online long enough to get streaming video for the last 3 periods of the school day. Today was absolutely normal, somehow.

Personally I don't think that anything "dangerous" will be repressed. Airline security might start get pretty close to a strip-search, and anything "dangerous" removed there, but for day-to-day activities I don't think much will change for the time.

I guarentee that we'll see armed guards in planes now.

Ideally, 3 in each, but I don't know how well that would fit into the budget.

Perhaps there should just be a law requiring all people on planes to carry guns for the flight, so if somebody tries to hijack a plane they'd have to survive the fire from all the passengers.

Eh, that's nuthin'. What's a little high-altitude air? It's just thinner, so breathe deep, you'll be fine. As long as the pilot is still alive he can fly the plane. No problem.

You know, if America didn't have such aggressive foreign policies, this wouldn't have happened.

True. It's a fall out of their Cold War policies.

Unfortunately, the problem is greater than that. It doesn't matter how nicely America markets its foreign policy if that policy remains "American interests first, and American interests only".

This is America. Whose interests should we put first?

American foreign policy is just an excuse used by the masterminds of these operations. Osama Bin Laden does not care so much about seeing America pay for it's crimes, but instead wants to start a war he knows will increase his power.

As for aggresive foreign policies, countries have constantly warred amongst themselves. If those aren't aggresive foreign policies, I don't know what are.

But American foreign policy has hurt a lot of people, especially in this decade. It's one thing to have your country's interest the #1 priority, but it's another matter entirely to have no regard for those who could suffer from it. Sometimes things happen that we can't foresee, but it's a crime to let an atrocity happen, turn a blind eye to it, and allow it to continue and reoccur. The latter is the driving motive of the terrorists, and part of me can empathize for them. But this is an explaination for their actions and by no means an excuse. Their acts are still diabolical, regardless of their reasoning.

And just because other countries have beligerant foreign policies doesn't mean we have to as well.

Well put, Sargatanus. It's nice to see not everyone who lives in America thinks their country is flawless.

America has been a powerful force for good in history, being (relatively) swift to adopt such vital ideas such as freedom of speech, equal rights for all, and so forth. Unfortunately, this has made many Americans arrogant, and this arrogance has caused a lot of damage to foreign countries. That's why anti-US sentiment is so strong world-wide. Hell, I live in Australia, and even here a lot of people are getting frustrated with America's belligerence in international policy.

The United States of America needs to learn to get along a bit better with its peers.

That said...

Nothing justifies killing innocent people. No self-interested meddling, no unthinking arrogance, no "lack of morality" will ever justify such sickening, evil actions. And Bush is right on one thing, for all his short-sighted mistakes on other matters- bin Laden needs to be brought to justice. And if anyone wishes to defend his actions, they must be prepared to suffer the consequences.

When all said and done, it was only one block. The major impact has been the stock market crashes... damn my interests have been hit hard.

The stocks, loss of life, and destruction of the centre are all linked. By mourning one you mourn all.

Hang on a minute. There is no proof that Bin Laden did this. I think Bin Laden SHOULD be extardited to a neutral country and then we can all laugh at Bush when he cant find any evidence against him. It is one of Americas 'great constitutional rights' that everyone should be allowed a fair trial isnt it? I fear if Bin Laden is sent to america he will be treated unfairly.

Talking of constitutional rights. To those who think that people should be allowed to carry guns on planes, it IS NOT a right to carry arms. It is a right to carry arms AS PART OF A LOCAL MILITA. Anaway, whats to stop a non law abiding citezen from taking his gun on board?

Actually, more of what I was trying to say was that passengers should be required to carry some sort of weapons on planes. Seeing as missed shots from guns could depressurize everything and such, I've started thinking knives. I think airport security works the wrong way. People can still smuggle weapons through, and then it's easy for them to hijack planes, as they're the only ones with weapons. If everybody had a weapon, hijackers would have to be able to hold off a crapload of passengers if they wanted to be successful.

And on the morality of the terrorists' actions, I don't think anybody can really be truly evil and wrong, etc.. People just can't do things against their own moral values without feeling guilty. In this case, the terrorists thought that they were doing the right thing, sacraficing their lives for a noble cause and such. People that do this sort of thing are mentally sick or are having very very strong emotions about things, hate being the emotion in this case. And I think that hate has been spurred by the US fiddling around in the middle east in matters where it has no business and generally screwing things up for a lot of people over there.
