slug, vegeta, baku, jeesh who next! It's because of the latest bannings on gameranger too. (with the exception of vegeta who left Posted Image ) Whoever is giving these bans out should maybe reconsider before they get rid off more ares players who were good. Posted Image

Don't forget Commodore Ambrose. While he was a bit stubborn and obnoxious, he was still intelligent. I happenned to be on his good side.

Walnut, this is an official warning. If you post a message like that again, you're banned. And not just from the Ares boards- from ALL Ambrosia Boards. Now get out of my sight before I change my mind and ban you right now.

That said (It's amazing that contrast I achieve whenever I sign off a banning warning with my standard signature), I think I have something to add.

People are leaving the boards mainly out of boredom. Ares is old, and apart from a contingent of the faithful most of the gamers have forgotten about it.
This will change with Hera- note that Escape Velocity, which, though I must grant that it is a classic, has expandibility and thus great longevity. That's what I hope will happen with Ares. New military campaigns = New fun = New gamers = More webboard members.

That's it.

If this expansion of the board leads to the level of "sophistication" which one can see clearly on the EV web boards, then PLEASE delay hera as long as possible.

(Note: I want hera. That is critisim against the EV boards which are the most unorganized bunch of whining fools I've ever seen.)

Yeah, but you gotta admit that they are still 4-5 times our size and are slightly better than us. After a few weeks, I have beaten Ares and am now hanging around the boards.

So far it's somewhat fun (I lead a boring life), but it's losing it's charm pretty darn fast.

I should hope that it only gets better from here (that's not saying very much).

I think that if Hera would come out now people would stay but if it doesn't come out soon I think that none of the people who have left will come back. They'll just have moved on to a game that already has infinite possibilites (an editor)

No offense to them, but I think the EV board is a bunch of Rebel-loving screwballs. (I apologize if i've offended anyone, but I've had experience there)

I have been here for the last 6 months (just), but the reason for me being a member is simply the fact that there were interesting people, interesting topics and stuff, but now those interesting persons, who started those interesting topics are leaving or have left already. Yes it is getting quite boring now, there's just people like Walnut and so who make these conversations here quite frustrating sometimes. I hope that when Hera arrives these topics (not here in trash talk necessarily) get some point.

What's wrong with rebels anyway?!? I like EV and I almost every time play for rebels (unless I'm taking over the whole galaxy… hmm, whatever). If confeds are better, then why not help the rebels?

I hear that someone once got permanently banned from gameranger. Maybe that's why he isn't at the boards anymore (or maybe he never existed?).

Actually, the old EV/O boards were great. Everyone was helpful and there was a real community. When andrew took over and merged ev.com with ambrosiasw.com., he flooded the boards with newbies. Most the oldies hated the new and less intelligent UBB boards.

And that's why everything there is chaotic. More boards and being on ambrosiasw.com ruined the 'community. Though, the current Ares boards seem alot better than when they were on the old AresCentral.com site...

I just hope our boards never get as large as theirs. I check it sometimes, and once, a topic came up and was more than one page long from one day to the next. That kind of thing scares me.

Actually, the old boards weren't all that much better, it had high points and low points but on average it was a better than banter and brawl, and worse than the dev board. When the new boards came up, half the old people left or so, and the other half split up, the intelligent people moved to the dev board, and the immature spammers moved to the banter and brawl so they wouldn't have to be moderated and could say what ever they wanted.
