I had a few questions about Ares and thought this would be a good place to ask about them.

1-What do the Grolk look like? What kind of government do they have? I've seen Grolk ships before, and so I started wondering about this. I imagine their full name as the Grolk Sodality and them being kinda lizard like.

2-Is there any way to view Ares graphics besides in the game and besides using Hera?

3-When will the final version of Hera come out? It's been a while, and I'm starting to wonder.

4-Is there any way to transfer the music from Ares onto another game, like EV? I'm working on a plug called "Ares EVO" and I wanted to use some of the music in Ares for the title music. Know any good methods?

I might ask more later. Feel free to post your own on this topic if you'd rather not post a whole new topic.

I'm not qualified to answer any of those questions, perhaps I could call Bob, my manager, and maybe we could get back to you in the morning, ok? Thanks.

The Grolk are essentially big gullible pandas. They once had a pretty large and advanced civilization, but they got lazy and careless and decided to make a lot of robots to do work for them. They made the grievous mistake of giving these robots sentience, and surprise surprise, there was a massive revolt. The few Grolk ships you see are refugee ships.

Nope.

It will be released when it's finished.

I know of a few...

But you'll be in deep space doodoo with Nathan Lamont and Ambrosia if you make that plug, since Only ASI is liscensed to produce it.

You should be able to view Ares graphics through ResEdit.

The sprites can't be viewed with resedit. You can still see some nifty stuff with it, though.

I have no clue as to what they look like, but I see them as thin and insectoid, black skin, small beady eyes, large craniums.

The Grolk were one a huge civilization. They had mastered everything even before the first Cantharans crawled from the seas of Cantharis. They explored the universe in search of life, and found none. They were alone. They created a single Artificial Intelligence, which spawned an etire race of machines. The Grolk united and marveled at their masterpiece, but their awe was turned to horror as the machines rose up and revolted against them.

All we see of the Grolk are a few refugee ships, running, fleeing from the Audemedons.

Dang.

So, there is absolutely no way to make an Ares TC for EVO unless you get this ASI liscense? I now this is a bit futile, but how exactly do you get an ASI Liscense and whatg IS an ASI liscense?

Also, how do you know that about the Grolk? I never knew that. I just thought they were a bunch of undeveloped reptiles.

*can't help but chuckle*

ASI is short for "Axis Software Intigrated." In other words, its a group of people that are working on neat plugins for some of Ambrosia's games (Ares, EVO). They have a license from Nathan Lamont that allows them to use the graphics, music, etc. legally. Thus, it is impossible to get an ASI license unless you are part of ASI. Posted Image

Maybe, Nathan Lamont can give you a license if you ask him, but its not an ASI license. Posted Image

Still drat. The chances of me getting a liscense from Nathan Lamont are probably one million to one. But maybe I'll try it someday. I'm not in that much of a hurry. But then again, I DID meet Nathan Lamont at Macworld...

But anyway, here are two more questions:

-On which Ares Data file is the intro text? I've been looking around for it, but I can't seem to find it.

-Where did Slug and Sargatanus find out about the Grolk being refugees? I've never seen anything that listen that.

According to the Rogue plugin the Grolk are Gaitori rebels but this doesnt seem right as the have different technology. (e.g. Magneto pulses)

Pyro: In case you didn't notice, there's a gateship in the plug I sent you. It's got a Lepton Ray and a Fullerene Turret, but I don't think the Gate's operational yet on it.

All of the text (intro etc.) is in the Ares Scenarios File.

Usually no weapons. It's a civilian vessel. Sometimes you'll see one with a PK cannon.

Trazer cannon, A-missiles, Audemedon fighterbay

Mag was too lazy to invent a new race so, like so many people, he used the Grolk as generic placefiller aliens.

FYI: The "Gaitori rebels" are actually called the Gaitori Isolationist interdiction. Their purpose was to free Gaitor from the iron grip of Cantharis, however they were hunted down. Ironically, their greusome end was from the very race that was directly fighting Cantharis. They were killed off in Make Way.

Nah, not quite. I wanted to include the Grolk as a race that could build in a plug, and decided their ships looked a little Gaitori.

I'm not sure the gateship would have NO weapons. Sure, it's a non-combat ship, but I'd defend MY only gateship. The Cantharan one supposedly was as well (even though it was labled with a diamond and sometimes made direct assaults on my forces), but it had a FEW guns.

I'd imagine it would have some corepulse turrets and a rather large group of escorts.

Darkk have you ever thought that the Ishiman, who have never before directly involved themselves in a war perhaps don't buy your philosphy of "Everything is a battleship"?

I'd arm my Gateship to the teeth. I would NOT want to loose it.

Also, Darkk, the Cantharan Gateship only had a FEW guns??? No way! I had a LOT of highly advanced and very exotic weaponry! That thing was dangerous (then again, you DID blow it up by shovling big green rocks at it...).

Third, the Audemedon Battleship only has the standard weapons of an Audemedon Carrier? What's the difference then? Strength?

The Audemedon Battle Cruiser (there is no ship or sprite called Audemedon Battleship) is the sprite used for the Audemedon Carrier. The sprite called Audemedon Carrier is not used in the game at all.

I knew that and that's what I'm talking about. Not the Audemedon Carrier in the game, the ship that never appears.

Well, I'm pretty sure that it never appears for 2 reasons:
1. Nathan himself doesn't know/care what guns it has.
2. Nathan didn't want it to exist.

As for the gateship: Slug: buying a pistol to defend yourself doesn't make you a frontline soldier. Mounting a few point-defense turrets on a gateship doesn't make it a battleship. The Ishimans would protect their gateship at least a little, if it's so valuable.

But if the Ishimans have more than one, than they wouldn't feel as attatched to it, and might simply use extreme numbers of escorts.

I'm not sure how many the Ishimans have; I know the Cantharans only have one. But I am fairly certain there are no more than 5 Ishiman Gateships in existence (plus their weaponry would almost have to have been upgraded; the color scheme appears to indicate that the Gateship is an older design)

Actually, one of the Ares screenshots (it might have been an old one) showed the Ishiman gateship in it. Maybe it was cut out, and Nathan Lamont does know.
