Hi again. I found the tree of life addon on the addons page but I can't open the .sitx file that I got. Does anyone have any advice? I wanted to find out what exactly those apples do.

Thanks!
-Noman

Welcome to Cythera!
If I remember correctly, you have to unstuff it in osX. If that isn't it / that won't work for you, somebody else will have to help you. (I haven't used the hacks much, because I haven't yet won the game properly.)

As far as we know, Jehezekel is correct that the save game files from the add-ons (most of them anyways) need to be uncompressed in Mac OS X. I suppose the reason for this is that .sitx is too new a format for OS 9. We've had this problem in the past with a board member who used OS 9 on his computer to play Cythera.

What operating system are you using? Make sure that you have the most recent version of Stuffit Expander. If you are using Mac OS 8 or 9, try downloading this version. If you are running Mac OS X, you can select the different Mac OS X versions from this page (click on the version number next to the Information Related to Version box).

I'm not sure if that will help you, but you could also try unstuffing the file on Mac OS X and transferring it to your other computer.

If none of those things work for you, let us know. smile.gif

I hope TwoJacks comes by later, because he was the one who had this problem, and I can't remember if we solved it or not. I think that we can send the uncompressed files via email, though.

Heheheh. Actually nope. tongue.gif

I have a weird TOL question: Say we do re-make Cythera, would we do about the tree of life?

Whatever GAndreas tells us to, of course! ^_~
But failing any direction from above, I say we make it an Easter Egg! happy.gif

I decompressed the file on my os X but the internet on my cythera computer won't work so I can't email it anyway. Can anyone tell me how to get to the tree of life myself?

The only thing I can think of is to get a flash-drive or something to that effect @_@

Please do let us know if you figure out a way to play the file, and figure out what the apples do!

Hmm. Noman, what method did you use to transfer Pandora's Box and Ace to your Cythera computer? If you have a method for transferring files that does not use the internet (a flash disk as BreadWorld suggested or a floppy disk if you have a drive or a network connection, etc.), you should try that.

Getting to the Tree of Life region is somewhat difficult since that region can't be reached without hacking the game. If all else fails, maybe Selax can write up a short walkthrough on hacking Cythera yourself. I can't do it myself, so I'd recommend trying to find a way to get the save files working.

I'm pretty sure Selax hacks Cythera on an OSX computer, and that the hacking app in question will only run on OSX. If there is a way to do it on OS 9 I'd like to hear it as well.

Actually, I believe Selax uses a combination of ResCompare and ResEdit, which are both OS 9 applications. The difficulty is in finding which bytes control what since very few of them have fixed addresses. Selax knows the details about this, so I'll leave it to him to write a guide if he would llike.

In the meantime, Noman, any additional information you can provide may help us find a solution. I apologize that the compression format is one that has caused so many problems for people. And, Two Jacks, what happened when I emailed you the save games uncompressed?

Still didn't work. It's like OS 9 wasn't able to understand files made on OS X. Eh.

I'm almost positive I played a Tree of Life game on Shorty's OS 9.

Actually, I use RecCompare and hexEdit both running in Sheepshaver. I've never tried Pandora's Box, so I can't say whether or not it could be used for the same purpose.
Long Live Cythera! Long Live the Cythera Web Board!

I now run a TS Character Killing Service.

Is there any way to get to the tree of life with pandora's box?

Unfortunately, if Selax doesn't know how to do it in Pandora's Box, I can't be of any help either.

You said that you can decompress the files on your OS X computer; do you have any way to transfer data between that and your Cythera computer?
