As a part of my goal in obtaining all the items, I have been collecting corpses. I didn't think I would be able to get a corpse of Alaric, or Magpie, but I was wrong. Not about Alaric, but Magpie. You see, I finally found the one weakness to this otherwise invincible character: sleep. When he goes to sleep, he becomes vulnerable. However, attacking him will wake him up, not to mention getting everyone else to attack you (as if Magpie couldn't take care of you himself with Deathstrike). No, the only way to kill him is also the only way to kill other "innocent" people without getting in trouble — you use bombs. I didn't think it would work, as I'd used bombs on him when he was awake, but to no avail. However, when the bomb exploded, it said, "Magpie wounded." and he didn't wake up! :P I ran back to my room and got another bomb. One more was all it took. Magpie was dead. I picked up his body, and placing it (Shakedown) before Alaric sitting on his throne, I first cast replicate on it, and, after taking the newly replicated corpse, I used Resurrection to bring magpie to life again. Magpie was back to his old self, and I had obtained his corpse. Amazing, no?

I'm quite impressed, I thought surely Maggie was invincible!
I'll become even more undignified than this

I've killed Magpie in his sleep before, using Deathstrike. Turned him into a tile of swampland, it did. Probably had something to do with his Seldine heritage. :P

Ooh, try catching Alaric in his study, and get him with lots and LOTS of bombs (fill the room up to the ceiling). That might work.

No, Alaric is programmed invincible, and only in earlier versions does it work.

I've killed Magpie before as well, but never got his corpse, he always turned into something or other, ranging from a piece of shore to a immovable Undead sprite.

And even Alaric messes up in earlier versions, as I've said before I got him to turn into a bread-baking steak before.

ooshmaster's sig reminded me of a question I had: why in the world does grinding an opponent to dust, supposedly the most damage you can do to someone other than Death Strike, hardly do any damage at all? It's like it loops from zero per cent to 75% or something...

Magpie's not invincible? Wow! I didn't know that. And bombs are very strange. they don't make people mad when you kill someone with a bomb.

PS could you post a screen shot of Magpie's corpse. I don't have the time to kill him

Probably because when you place a bomb, it loses its association with you. I don't recall offhand any other items that have effects after they are dropped, but if there were, they would likely not affect anyone's opinion of you either.

Yeah, it's pretty cool, bombs and spikes are how I kill innocents for my corpse collection. Of course, I always revive them after Replicating their corpse!

Oh, and I've taken screenshots of Magpie's corpse, but I have no way of getting them off the old computer running Cythera. Sorry.

I'll get a screenshot then, I think I have one buried here somewhere...

(I have a folder of Cythera screenshots that has over 1,000 items, including sub-folders, but not including their contents)
...
Luckily I named them at least.

Woah... well it sounds like you've already done what I did. Care to share that with us?

I tried this technique on Ur-Sylph; sadly, it didn't work.

That is quite an accomplishment (Note: that statement of mine is an understatement :P ).

Indeed. And when you said "I tried this technique on Ur-Sylph; sadly, it didn't work." it was an over-statement.

Actually most of the screenshots I have are somewhat pointless, but I kept up naming them by remembering to name each one after taking it.

UrSylph cannot die because he is a floating ball of light/air. Probably even though he's air you can kill him, but if he's way up there in the sky you can't reach him.

Anyone else wonder how tall the force fields are? I mean, the one in that cave guarding the Seldanes, theoretically unless it's a big dome or box a flying creature can come in, right?

EDIT: Wait, nevermind, there's a cave roof, silly me.

Sometimes when I'm lazy I name the screenshots things like "magpie" and "food" and that's when it gets kind of hard to find them. I think I must've on the Magpie corpse...maybe it's faster to just take another one.
