This topic was inspired by this post by Buzzy in the Undine topic:

View PostBuzzzzy, on Nov 18 2006, 06:38 PM, said:

Okay, I just tried pressing a bunch of keys next to Nothing with Nothing's thingy open, including modifier keys and caps lock, and suddenly my log updates with a bunch of messages saying things like "Nothing: Odemia ... Nothing: 1023 plays (really?)" and stuff, not exactly what IT 000 said, but similar. He even told me what my karma was (Nothing: karma: 98%). Maybe Nothing was a quick way for beta testers/Glenn to have found out some info.

Wizard became curious about this and decided to experiment to find out what key combinations did what. He found that Shift+Z gave the version of the Cythera, the name of the character, time spent on the game (presumably anyway), and how long one has had Cythera and used it. He also found that this key combination worked anywhere, even when one was not near Nothing (who is in the upper-left corner of every map). I don't know if this hold true for all key combination, so it'd be best to experiment on this as Buzzy did—with Nothing's character window open.

That brings me to the purpose of this post: finding the key combinations. Which key combinations do things? What do they do? If you get curious, decide to experiment, and find one, please post it here if possible.

Also, do remember to be cautious which keys you hit; that is, be careful not to enter key combinations that could cause your computer to shut off, erase something, etc. (Although I don't know how often stuff like that happens or if it is really a big risk.)

The basic ones (not listed in-game) are:

G: Grab (Take an item)
T: Talk
A: Attack
Space: Search the tile you are facing

And I think a few others. Probably not helpfull, but what the heck.

I am pretty sure the spacebar passes time, while shift+arrow key searches the tile. That is the only thing I rembember at this moment.
I'm going back to the ones that know, with whom I can be what I want to be

Oh yeah. Heh heh.

Oh, and I had a random Fetch idea. How about dragging the item instead of clicking it? Can't check now, comp's acting up again.

Has anybody else found any more keys? I played around with it on Sheepshaver for a while, but I can't find anything more.

I'm not sure; I haven't tried to find any more keys since I tried for little bit on my first try and was mostly unsuccessful.

Has anyone found anything else?

I've never thought to do anything like that. But did anyone know that when you open your internet browser, and press spacebar, you automatically go to the bottom of the page? And when you are typing in a text box, pressing function and up or down takes you up and down without taking the cursor out of the textbox.
I know it's off topic, but you might find it useful.

Personally, I'm particularly interested in finding the key combination that reports karma, not because I particularly care about karma but because it'd be interesting to have.

For karma, the colour of your name is a rough gauge as to how good or bad you are. Mine is snow white (and the seven dwarfs, heh heh!).

yes, but that's a qualitative gauge. Some of us like to have a quantitative gauge. e.g. 99% good karma rather than White.

At least I think that's what Selax is talking about.

Command-option-escape seems to quit the game.

Maybe send an email or something to Glenn Andreas and ask?

As for the topic: anybody try more keys?

Command-option-escape is force quit. It's not Cythera, but system.

Glenn is not even logging in recently. His last login last I checked was in September.

Out of curiosity, do you remember any of the key combinations you tried, Buzzzzy?

No, because I was just slamming my fingers on the keyboard and a few logs popped up.

EDIT: I recovered a screenshot I had made of it, which I'm going to upload, and karma was actually something Nothing told me. It said, to be exact, "Nothing: Karma=98%." Too bad he doesn't tell you about fetch. :P

Only thing he said, everything else was in normal log speak. And the Nothing appeared in the journal, not the log.
