Just looking for some feedback from the community about what to do with the tavern when it hits the magical 200 mark (its at 196 as of this post, I'll do OoC comment pruning in the near future which might drop the number a little).

In times past, taverns have been closed and continued in sequel threads - dating back to a limitation on the old board system. On the old board (back around 2001), any modifications to a topic required the entire topic to be rewritten, which as you can imagine, can be quite time-consuming with lengthy posts numbering in the thousands. This mandated the "200-post limit" on topics, which was finally lifted upon ASW upgrading to new server hardware sometime around 2003. While the boards now have no such known posting limit (in fact, Word Association Football on the ATT forum is over 8000 posts), for a while we kept the tradition of limiting the threads to 200 posts.

In one sense, it makes it less intimidating to newer members of the community. Its a bit unnerving to be asked to introduce your story character in a topic that has some four thousand posts already in it, and there's the implication that people need to read the entire tavern to understand what's going on. (in fact, that's a misconception, the tavern is designed to be disjointed so people can join in and leave with no preamble)

On the other hand, there is the side-effect of events just stopping suddenly and picking up in another thread, requiring a lot of flipping between the older topic and the newer one until the new thread has progressed far enough it can stand on its own.

Either way, for those that are interested in what it was like years ago, old tavern topics are linked in our Archives.

I don't mind it the way that it is, the tavern doesn't get used for a few months on end while the TS is running anyway. because of this it would be easy to make another Tarvern, it basically starts from scratech again every few months anyway.

I think the Tavern becoming too daunting is a good argument for beginning a new one after 200 posts. It also allows people to go back and read what the boards were like, which TS's were around, and such, at that period in time easily.

I agree—restarting at 200 posts is probably a good idea.

For one thing, it'd give us a chance to correct a slight mispelling (although it really isn't a big deal and I suspect that a moderator could do this anyway or it could just be accepted as standard): Alraeican Tavern instead of Alraeician Tavern.

Don't worry—the penalty is only an arm and a leg—no more expensive than gas :P .
(By the way, before anyone can notice, I went ahead and used the misspelling in my chronicle.)

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Surely, if there was a typo in something as momentous and historic as the tavern, someone would've mentioned it during the three years it has been running!

By the way, whatever did happen to Nixus? She kind of left us hanging and fled suddenly, which fits her character, but its an open story.

She has (this year) become involved in a university course and has been generally busy. Next time we talk, perhaps I can coax her into returning.

I think we should start another at 200 posts, although it seems there isn't much opposition to the proposal. My main reason is that I want to see the numbers keep counting up. I don't want to be stuck on VII for the rest of my life; what about VIII, IX, X, and so on?

XC even? That would be an event to behold. At this rate we may need the 3,000 years.

I believe that in former years there were enough members and characters to keep both running at the same time, but that hasn't been the case in some time now.

I think that this topic is still recent enough to post in, so I shall do so.

Since the current Tavern is only three posts away from 200 and will hopefully have an influx of new people because of the ending of the current TS, is there any objection if I just go ahead and start the next Tavern to avoid any chances of confusing people and to simplify matters?

Since Part VII had hit 200 posts, I decided that I might as well go ahead and start Part VIII.

HOW DARE YOU!?!

Actually, its fine. I was going to ask you to start the next installment anyway, since this seems to be your chapter for the boards.
