As most members around here know, the chronicles board is essentially dead. This is probably a somewhat grievous turn of affairs, and recently a thought on how to perhaps reactivate that board at least a little came to me.

On some of the other boards that I check (that have topics similar to chronicles), occasionally one person will start a challenge thread. I am not very good at explanations, but I will make a (probably poor) attempt.

The challenge given is essentially to write in your own way (and perhaps with some restrictions) about either a very specific event, perhaps a general idea, or perhaps just to use certain characters. Responses may vary in size from one post to a story. This is probably a poor explanation but I hope that I may improve by giving responses to specific questions; for now, I shall give two examples.

Example 1:
Write a short story (preferably at least 500 words although I won't be counting so it wouldn't matter) in which Bellerophon instead of curing Alaric with the Crolna kills him with it.
Characters must include: Bellerophon, Alaric, Magpie, Omen
Words (optional) must include: East, West, Balance

Example 2:
Write a short story (preferably at least 500 words although I won't be counting so it wouldn't matter) in which Alaric and the Seldane are the villains and the Undine are the heroes

I don't think that I have done a very good job of explaining the concept, but I hope that the basic idea may be gleaned from the examples.

If the idea seems to be workable, I would suggest that only one or two challenges be ongoing and that future challenges be posted to this thread. They must have something (loosely at least) to do with Cythera—the choice of restrictions is yours.

I know in the past chronicles would have to be checked through by Avatara or Slayer before they were posted, but that was before the boards changed. How do we go about posting chronicles these days? Just posting to the Chronicles webboard like always?

On that note, I have written a chronicle about the escape from Thera, about 900 years ago. Unfortuantly, I only have the first part. Would people still be interested?

Yeah, that's actually the biggest problem with the Chronicles, forum-wide. Its just like a normal webboard right now, there's nothing fancy about it. Topics are ordered based on the last reply (rather than last submission), and its pretty complicated to moderate it so it resembles the original setup (which can kind of be faked using invisible posts and pinned topics, but that's not much better). Maybe if the admins change the chronicle boards to something like a blog (which is what they use for the Ambrosia times) it'd be just a bit more appealing. I'll try to bring it up to the war room again.

A forum software change still won't fix the almost-as-big problem of nobody to post there.

I like the sound of this idea. It would be fun to read them anyways, even if I never got around to writing my own :P

Sounds like fun. I might start posting more as well.

It sounds like a good idea, it may even get some more people on the Cythera board again for a change.

Perhaps we first establish what everything is, because we are still wondering about Omen, the Undine, etc. We could all agree with one idea, then build of that. I think there is nothing wrong about doing this, nothing totall terrible can happen. Lets just go for it.

I would be able to do this without any problems at all, if we do this within the next few weeks I could incorperate the story into my English class when we do our writing folio :P

On the Cythera Chronicle webboards is a short introduction to a series of chronicles I hope to write detailing the early days of Cythera. Comments and criticisms are welcome.

I notice that no one has actually responded to one of the example challenges or made one of their own despite the apparent interest in the idea.

Nice introduction, dusk. I look forward to the rest of your series.

Well I am currently typing a sotry but it doesn't really relate to Cythera, and is in the somewaht future of the present (aka 2025)... I'm going to post it on DevianArt, and you can check it out there and if you like it i can also post it here...

Is that a rhetorical question?

Ah, if only I could get into the habit of writing again... my list of ideas keeps growing, but I never seem to develop sufficient inclination to do anything with them.

My problem is that the stories that i actually start to write are not really in the time of Cythera. I suppose I could finally work out Talryn's background and turn that into a Chron...

Could i possibly post TSes that me, Kentonis and a couple of others do some time? Most are around Cythera's time. Due to school, we haven't been able to do any in a while though... If people are interested, I could try to get Kentonis and a couple of others do continue/work on one of our tses and post it...

Yes, if they are Cythera-related, although I believe that we have a few chrons in there that aren't Cythera-related so it might not be terribly important.

Hmm. . .if I don't gamble, does that mean that I can't collect the twenty? I know! I'll take it as a donation! ;)

By the way, cache, it's good to see you around again. I was beginning to worry that some of the people from webboard had been killed by Percinator. :P (For those who don't remember, there was another thread in which it was joked that Percinator either was Slayer or had killed him.)

Out of curiosity, how many people around here still check the Chronicles board?

Edit: I might also get around to starting one of these challenges sooner or later.

I never read chronicles just because there's a new one out; but sometimes I go there when I feel like reading something (those often I don't finish because no offense but some of you people just go off :P)

I think i might've figured away to tie it into cythera, kinda as in a character introduction...

Speaking of which i should work on that... which actually works in away, since i have about two hous of nothing to do per render for my deviantArt account (see sig), i could in theory add in some more stuff and make it so that it could be posted.

and what happened to Avatara..?
