Yes, the beauty about capitalism is that the government is protected and sustained by people want, desires, and needs, which are focused on a free economy. As long as the government doesn't interfere to often they are not the object of attack.
Um no. Unlike Socialism Capitalism is not a socio-economic system, it is only an economic one. A capitalist country can be either authoritarian or libertarian in nature (I suppose Socialism can be too, but most socialists I know do not regard Marxist-Leninists/Stalinists as true socialists). A free economy does not always make a free people. Pinochet was a capitalist, as were many other US supported regimes in Latin America during the cold war, but you could hardly call any of them free.
In addition, the Party in the US that claims to be for the Free Market and Freedom, the GOP, has been slowly whittling down actual rights, such as speech, assembly, and freedom from unlawful search and seizure (because of course the "right" to own a gun (which actually does even exist) is more important than that of free speech).
I simply believe that personal freedom and economic freedom are two entirely different creatures. The government should never try to protect me from myself, but should be able to protect people/natural resources/environment from economic exploitation.
