I've encountered a few Americans who have difficulty understanding me - they're mostly from Ohio and other odd corners of the country. What their problem is, I don't know - I can understand practically any American dialect, including those hillbilly strains.

Wow.... even I can't understand some crazy southern/hillbilly accents and I'm from PA. I have the most trouble understanding country music, a genre I've been thrown into because of my association with certain country-music-loving-friends.

I can understand anything as long as I'm either concentrating on it or looking at the speaker. If someone says something behind me and I'm not listening for it, I don't hear it. I've never been sure whether it's a problem with my understanding of audible stimuli, due to what I can only describe as "white noise" between my conciousness and my hearing, or a function of the hearing loss I've had since I was a youth. I've ended up coping with this by anticipating what people are going to say to me and responding accordingly. I'm usually right, but occasionally (especially when I'm greeted) I'll anticipate incorrectly and respond with the wrong response ("Good afternoon, Pufer!" to which I'll respond, "Oh, same old, same old. What've you been up to?").

I fail to see what chicken soup had to do with it... If it was, how come I wasn't involved?

Ya, but how do you stay on topic with a topic that was supposedly started by someone who stole an account and said that the person who's account they stole was going to Sweeden to get married to another person on the forum. Wow, I'm confused...all I was saying was theat this topic was hopelessly lost from the begining. :P

I believe that the correct topic for discussion for such a topic is the topic itself, rather than the topic addressed by the topic.

This topic is confusing and intensely off topic, that's all we've really established.

Wait, can a topic about itself really be off topic...:skull explodes:

In a purely topical way, this topic's topic is more off-topic than the topics of many topics lacking any topical topics to address as the topic of the topic within the topic.
