Or perhaps the founder was a Christian. However, I've never heard of this place. I don't think we have them in Washington.

If they were creating a name based on customer wait times, it would be named "In'n'Stand Around for a While".

Quite right, they were founded by a Christian and must still be under Christian management - we had one about 10 minutes from our when we lived out in L.A. I'm surprised you're dissapointed to see them coming Mu - their food was great for being fast food.

I think the word that you're looking for is "despite". Their food was great despite being fast food - I highly doubt any foodstuff is improved by fast food practises.

I'm not actually certain that it matters...

I believe there certainly exist some top notch "fast food" joints around (two of which I frequent on a regular basis), but they are all independent restaurants. I will, however, agree with you that there is no food that is not destroyed by the meddling of a major fast food chain.
There was an In'n'Out Burger, although with a different logo than the ones I've seen in Arizona (likely a different bunch infringing on the copyrighted name, which is surprisingly common around here, even affecting Burger King a few years back) down here for about a month a couple years ago. I never went, nor did anyone else judging by how quick they closed up shop (although it may just have been due to legal pressure from the In'n'Out corporation, where ever it may be). The only notable thing about the situation was that they moved into a building formerly owned by a similarly named Pop'n'Taco franchise that met with roughly the same demise. Albuquerque apparently doesn't agree with joints with solitary nouns in their names. Chick-fil-a, on the other hand, has really taken off down here in the past couple years, demonstrating that vowels are evidently cool with the general public.

Anybody heard of Spangles? They make far better burgers than McDonalds, although their fries are a bit lacking...

Nah. On weekdays I generally leave the house at 0715 and don't return home until 1830 to 1900 every night. I certainly don't make it home for lunch and often the last thing I'd want to do when I get home after a twelve hour day is to start cooking, so I end up eating out with great frequency (roughly seven to ten meals per week). I really don't have time to pack a lunch so I either go out and get a hot meal or work through lunch and eat a couple granola bars or a pudding cup at my desk (I think you can see which one I prefer). I get paid pretty well so money is no object (I can pay off a week's eating expenses simply by putting another couple hours in at the office, no biggie), but I can see where you could characterize it as a waste of money, I just define it as a waste of a couple hours worth of wasting time at the office.
Interestingly enough, in the great metropolitan centers of the world (and especially in Italy and Japan) it is not uncommon to find that most working city dwellers only eat one or two meals a week at home, eating out the rest of the time. It's really just a matter of where you place your priorities in life.

He speaks the truth, the sock is nothing to be scoffed at.
With my work situation, it is very common to go long periods away from home, and long periods of not having a chance to eat. After a while, you learn to eat whatever and whenever you can, and I tell you, it's amazing what you'll eat when you're hungry. Now, we always try to eat as healthily as possible. Sandwichs, possibly crisps, some form of pastry maybe. But I do know people in the buisness who will always eat McDonalds and Burger King in this situation, and to be blunt, they're fat
Whilst I do admit to eating a McDonalds on occassion, they do fill a hole. There are times when you've been working since 4am for about 12 hours, and you just need something hot, filling and fast. And in this case, McDonalds fits the bill very nicely. I don't really have an issue with them myself, I admit it isn't healthy, but I always don't think it's the most disgusting thing ever...
In my college days I would eat out everyday. Be it from the chip shop, the bakers, McDonalds whatever, I had the money to do this, but I still consider it may have been a waste. I did used to treat myself to a 'Sainsburys Lunch' every week. Walk around Sainsburys, spend about £5 (it's amazing what you can get for £5 if you try hard enough) And atleast eat something that wasn't dripping in fat. The whole fat thing didn't seem to matter much, as I walked to and from college most of the time (a good 10 miles) so I'd burn it all off. Not to mention the fact that I would spend my lunch breaks walking around the local town (i didn't like my college very much, and didn't really socialise with the other students).
Now a days, when I'm not working, I'm usually at home, so I have the opurtunity to cook myself something. Which is great. but everynow and again, if I'm in the middle of something, I will go grab a take away sandwich or something. I restrict myself to one McDonalds/KFC/whatever a week. Most Sundays I will have take away chinese after church (there is a major lack of food joints open at midnight on a sunday) but apart from that, we will have a takeout on a rare occassion. My family, like vec's, never used to eat out or get take away. However as the amount of children my parents have has increased, so has the amount of time they have to cook, decreased. We get homecooked meals most nights, but there are some situations when you just can't be arsed.
So I have nothing against take away joints, I think they like everything in this life, come down to a case of moderation. Having the occassional meal there, once or twice a week can't hurt, but situations arise when you don't have much choice I guess...
