I want to give my best friend Kandace a big "OMG YAY!" She just got herself out of a relationship that was well on its way to becoming very abusive physically. It was already mentally abusive, and he had already nearly killed Kandace's mother. Now, why would anyone be that stupid? Especially when Kandace's dad is the Chief of Police for the entire state of Idaho?

Very cool.

You know, it's very interesting how social attitudes towards domestic abuse have changed over the years. We've gone from a "why are they talking about it? families are families, and families stay together" attitude to a "why didn't they leave sooner?" attitude. A definite improvement, but still not helpful. Not that I'm suggesting any of you guys hold that attitude.


And as for what the hell's going through the head of the abuser - who the hell knows? There are a dozen theories on that, pick one and odds are it'll work out.

Is "Kandace" safely out of her relationship, or is there the chance the guy will try to do something to her out of anger/fear/frustration due to her leaving him?

The abuser's two oldest brothers and his two best friends told both he and Kandace that they shouldn't see each other again. They will not let them contact each other. If he tries to do anything to her, they will take him down. Kandace dad is in Virginia right now, but all she would have to do is call him and tell him to have the abuser arrested and the cops would be breaking down his door in twenty minutes. He's lucky he's not in prison right now; Kandace's mom called her dad and told him about it, and she argued with him for over an hour to keep him from sending the cops to his house. She said she wouldn't press charges for attacking her. If he had attacked anyone but her, she would have her gun to his head in a heartbeat.

The funny thing is that the reason he attacked Kan's mother is because she took his blue plastic squirtgun and wouldn't give it back. Now, he has scholarships up the wazoo. If he had been arrested, his scholarships would be revoked. He would have, in his own brother's words, "pissed away his education on a god-damn piece of plastic."
