Swimming wouldn't be a popular sport. And, we'd have more Cuban refugees escaping to Florida.

Then again, it seems hard to drown in a sea of bananas. Think of drowning in the balls at the McDonald Playplaces, except with materials that are harder to sink under. Sure, you might smush a banana or two due to your weight and ruin your clothes, and it would be a pain to walk over, but you wouldn't easily "go under" a sea of bananas. Unless someone pushed you under and buried you.
