I'm so sorry to see that the board has practically disintegrated without me. But I haven't heard anything from anyone complaining so I guess you all are glad that I've been gone Posted Image that's a sad thought. In any case. For those who do not know...

Reasons for Being Absent for an Extended Period of Time

* School is crazy. Vec and I have about the same hw load. Except I'm in AP Euro, so sometimes that adds an extra hour when I do the reading

* I'm grounded from the computer: Explanation: You see, I was trying to make my homework load less that the 5-6 hours every night. So I thought, *Gee, if the guys can do it on Ambrosia...then why can't I?" Well, that was a very fatal mistake in that my grades dropped. It was terrible. I've never been so ashamed in my life. So I'm back to the 'ol hw routine now. But I'm still grounded. From IM...from here...from practically everything unless it has to do with school, e-mail, or dancing badgers. Gah! It's terrible! I miss you guys so much!

*sobs*

Hope you're happy to have me back...for about 15 minutes, then I'll be gone again until summer. I love you all very much. *except Jambo*

I feel excessive homework does not help you learn. In a perfect world, you would get assigned work to do as practice, and you would only have to do it if you felt you didn't understand what was going on. I realize that system is flawed because the only people who would work are those who are smart enough that they don't really need the practice.

Not necessarily. Intelligence does not directly equate to determination, and it's determination which covers how hard you push yourself. But I agree. Excessive homework doesn't teach you anything, just tire you out. The only times you should be dealing with more than 3-4 hours a night is if you've left an assignment too late and have to burn the midnight oil to get it done, in which case you are learning a lesson.

I see intelligence and determination as two separate entities of one another, geared in such a manner as ideally one would be equipped with equal quantities of both. But, as I figure it, an overabundance of either of those traits will more than make up for a deficiency of the other in most situations. Homework, however, doesn't affect either quality to any great extent. Intelligence is pretty much set by heredity and environment so no amount of homework could either help or hurt one's intelligence level. Likewise, determination is sort of a state of mind rather than a conditioned response, giving a lot of homework doesn't build determination, it only builds a resistance to tedium (which can be useful I suppose).

Some homework is okay. When the homework is busy work that the teacher gives you to hammer in a concept you already understand, but they were too lazy to come up with some other assignment and felt they needed to keep you busy, then it becomes stupid. Busy work rarely helps anyone and just consumes your time in an attempt to get enough "points" to "pass" a class.

The above image. The UBB doesn't like capitalized commands. (i.e [IMG] instead of [img])

That's what it does with all commands. Congrats on making the next rung of the intelligence stairs.

Ya, I figured that one out. What happened was I attempted to post the fix to what I thought was a UBB error in both LOBF's and vecoriwen's post. After It didn't show up for me, I couldn't leave it that way looking like I had failed after pointing out the mistake of two others. So I cheated, I transfered the image to my site (with 40gb bandwidth, I don't worry about hotlinking Posted Image), and posted it. Once that worked, I realized it must be no hotlinking.

Edit: what is your website GD? The one in your profile gives me a "server not found"

He didn't say that he was a particularly good webmaster, he just said that he was a webmaster. Hell, I'm technically a webmaster of two websites, but that doesn't mean that I know anything about webmastering (I do have a nice hat though).

My site is not up. I put that there because I was bored. It will be updated when the site is updated. I work with a small band of people on a site called Stryker.net, with Stryker, Azzy, Phoenix. It's basically for flash movies and images we make. Plus random articles. It's about 21% done. Yes, I am the real GD.
