Has anyone seen the new Movie "The Last Samurai"? I saw it, and I ended up crying, and I mean bawling. I LOVE that movie. What did y'all think?

I've heard nothing but good things about it, and it would probably be a movie that I'd be into, but I stay away from the moviehouse like it was the plague so it'll be a while before I see it.

It really sucks to have a boring sig. You know, the kind that drones on forever and never really says anything. I try my best to never have one of those. Every time I make a new sig I try to get it to be a truly outstanding sig. Some people have sigs like that. With neat (EVula) links and stuff. Witty quotes are good too. But then some people have really, really, boring sigs that you'd die before reading more of. They just go on, and on, and on...those sigs really annoy me. I mean, they say nothing and nobody really cares anyway! I pity the people who have those.

I have heard nothing but bad things about The Last Samuri, strangely enough. Reviews that panned it, people who saw it and thought it sucked. If you all have heard positive things though, I might rent it as soon as it comes out.

Man, I don't see why they didn't just get a japanese guy to play a samurai. Or maybe I'm just crazy...

That would defeat the whole point. Cruise is supposed to be an American veteran in Japan. He's is supposedly haunted by his experience in the Indian Wars. Otherwise it would just be some Japanese guy learning the ways of Japanese fighting tradition.

What I want to know is how culturally accurate the movie stays. I hear conflicting reports, some saying that the film butchers Japanese history, some that it's tries hard to keep everything authentic. Seeing as it's Hollywood, I would tend to slide towards the former, but I'll have to see it to be sure.

Only when referring to a particular diety or group that has termed themselves so. "god" is more general.

The movie stays completely true to Japanese tradition and culture. I would know, I am a 3rd Dan of Gobukan Ryu Ninjitsu. I also teach Iaido. Look up, Iaido and you will find that teaching Japanese culture is part of the learning process. The only conflicting thing I found was the fact that they let a white man wear the armor and swords of a Samurai. That basically gave him the same social status. The swords were rank, and wearing both was the highest honor.

Yes, The Last Samurai is an extremely moving and excellent movie. Now, if only Tom Cruise could have learned to play a role other than Tom Cruise... it would have been perfect. Ken Watanabe, who plays Katsumoto, was absolutely brilliant, however.

In case you haven't been paying attention, flags, Pikeman is a frequent visitor, like Chlamydia to some girls I know.

Anyway, some Hollywood films do try to add a little cultural depth to their movies. I'm surprised one succeeded - especially considering it was a "Japanese" film shot in New Zealand starring an American.

Well, I guess I havn't been paying attention.

I will probably get the movie when it comes out on DVD. Almost all of the films here in the theaters are dubbed american movies, so it kinda sucks to watch them. On DVD you have a language selection.

But it was actually quite good. Even if you think it looks bad, you should still see it. The music is great. And you really cant appreciate the music in this movie unless you know the storyline and can visualize the scene in which its used. Its that indepth.

I think that music usually detracts from a movie. Thus, i don't watch movies for their music.
