A few thoughts

As you may or may not have guessed, this is because the vast majority of them were, to be honest... crap. So, in the interests of interesting topics, consider the following points-
1. Utterly random nonsense is stupid.
Just don't post it. Not in its own topic, not in reply to a topic. A link to an unusual site is fine. A debate about something out of the ordinary is also fine. "Squid", in and of itself, is a useless comment.
2. Stay relevant
This isn't the same thing as staying on topic. Staying relevant just means your post relates to the conversation at hand, or one of them. It doesn't even have to relate perfectly to the whole topic, just a part of it.
Keep these two points in mind and I don't forsee another mass locking.

Actually Stryker (whom Laguna and I karmabanned) was a big player in that decision.
/me cheers
How did he last so long? I thought that his spam-topic riddled arrival (across multiple boards no less) was enough to warrant his ever-lasting removal. Oh well, at least he is gone. Three cheers for Avatara and Laguna!

If you want to post useless things that make no sense whatever then that's one of the reasons to head over to my board. As long as it isn't breaking the rules, I'm fine with it. So for those useless topics you've been going crazy about and wanting to post, well, now my board actually has a good reason for you to be there.
