As for the "crew of the Ares flying the Ishiman ships", I submit that they didn't fly all or even most of them. They were flown by simple piloting AIs (why do you think they could accuratly track cloaked objects?). There couldn't have been more than a few hundred crew on the Ares, and a large portion of those would have been EVATs and ground troops on the transports in many levels.
