What are those pods that appear on Ishiman cruisers, heavy cruisers, assault transports and engineer pods?

As far as I can see there are a few possibilities:

Superlight Drives: They are reminiscent of Star Treks' Warp Nacelles. This theory is dashed on the rocks as assault transports and engineer pods do not have Superlight Drives.

Shield Generators/Projectors: There are none visible in bigger ships becaus the pods leak radiaton and ontl larger ships have room for suitable insulation. Fighters do not have shields. Against this is that engineer pods are meant to be unmanned and therefore do not need protection from radiation. Against this is that the radiation interferes with the engineer pods' AI.

Gyroscopes: For manuverobility. Ships without the pods are (a) Large enough to be able to rely on their shielding/escots to keep them alive until the enemy is destroyed. (:P Older and use less advanced technology. © Newer and use more advanced technology. (d) They have internal gyros. But what about fighters. Do they have internal gyros? Not likely if engineer pods have them.

Sublight drives: NO the splash screen clearly shows an orange thing on the back of an Ishiman heavy cruiser.

Weapons pods: No the cruisers weapons are all shown in the briefing picture. The blue half-circle is the F-pulse reactor and the two orange bits at the side are the PK beams.

Does anyone else have any other ideas or can anyone read Ishiman script and decipher the 'labels' at the side. Posted Image

Just something I noticed by coincidence (at first):

If you look at the Ishiman cruiser (ID 1001) and the Ishiman Gunship (ID 1020), then you can look at the main labels on each. If you were to assume that they were "Cruiser" and "Gunship," the Rs on cruiser check out and the Ss check out between them. However, the Us don't. Then take out the Gaitori cruiser (ID 1038). The second "word" is the same as the second "word" in the Ishiman cruiser. Therefore it is even more likely it is cruiser. Then, you can see the first word has seven letters. G-A-I-T-O-R-I. Whose G checks out with the Ish. Gunship. Please wait an hour while I continue to extend my findings... If I find anything, I'll post a new topic.

Oopsie, it is trodden. Go to the Briefing Room, and select Ishiman lettering. Scroll down, and you'll see a little cheatsheet. Too bad. In addition to S/T, there's also B/J and F/V.
