Bush won the election, but Gore (being as pigheaded and American as he is) is being a sore loser and will take this to the supreme court.
What do you guys think on US politics (I noticed we don't have one of these discussions on the boards)?

I think political parties shouldn't exist. Everbody should be independant, and people should vote for whoever has better views, in their opinion. Political parties just make the whole thing really messy, in my opinion.

"Won" is a relative term. Right now, neither candidate has won.
No matter who wins, those who favor the loser will not view the winner as the legitamate president. It's just one of those things where we have a "worst case scenario", and this is the one for our presidential elections. If Gore wins, he wins "in defiance of the laws", and if Bush wins, he wins on a technicality.
This is a perfect example of how it is possible for both candidates to lose the election.
Mag: I'd agree with you, but in that scenario it would be hard to get candidates who aren't hugely rich into the national mind, and it's entirely possible that a regional favorite could win simply because that region had a lot of people and was united behind that candidate. That's somewhat scary, California (or some other region/state) deciding our president based entirely on local issues.

*Error: unable to determine if target exists or not*
*Error: target cannot be hit*

You're thinking the same way George Washington thought. Unfortunately, it is divorced from reality.
Your proposal would be ideal, if people like to be independent. I would like to suggest that people like to be kept on a leash. Allow them some exercise room, just not too much. (For more on this subject, consult Dostoevsky's "The Grand Inquisitor")
Reality is, intelligent, like-minded individuals tend to group together hoping that through force gained from numbers and organization, they can see their ideals achieved. Not to mention the fact that the rest of the herd simply want other people to tell them who to vote for.

Gore is just being a bully, that's all. He's a sore loser, and wants to make sure he wins.

Those who have read my posts in political debates know that I am far from being a Gore partisan. I'd sooner eat glass than support him.
With that said, I think we have to keep things in perspective. Let us not forget what the prize is: the presidency of the United States for the next 4 years. Considering what is at stake, I can't say I'm surprised by the graceless fashion Gore is pursuing it. No tactic is too low for Gore to pursue that office. (Contrast this with 1960, an election even closer than the present one, when JFK won by only about 100,000 popular votes. Nixon conceded quickly after the results were clear.)
Ask yourselves this question, what will Gore's mentor/master the Sith Lord Bill Clinton do? We already know the answer. He'd fight on to the bitter end.

Um, Saddam Hussein (spelled something like that) is a dictator, not communist. And people here don't tend to like communism (think Vietnam, Korea, etc.).
