People are leaving the boards mainly out of boredom. Ares is old, and apart from a contingent of the faithful most of the gamers have forgotten about it.
This will change with Hera- note that Escape Velocity, which, though I must grant that it is a classic, has expandibility and thus great longevity. That's what I hope will happen with Ares. New military campaigns = New fun = New gamers = More webboard members.
That's it.

If this expansion of the board leads to the level of "sophistication" which one can see clearly on the EV web boards, then PLEASE delay hera as long as possible.
(Note: I want hera. That is critisim against the EV boards which are the most unorganized bunch of whining fools I've ever seen.)

So far it's somewhat fun (I lead a boring life), but it's losing it's charm pretty darn fast.
I should hope that it only gets better from here (that's not saying very much).

World War 1 was fought with Machine Guns and Cannons.
World War 2 was fought with bombs and missiles.
I don't know what World War 3 will be fought with, but it will be so terrible that
World War 4 will be fought with stone clubs.

What's wrong with rebels anyway?!? I like EV and I almost every time play for rebels (unless I'm taking over the whole galaxy… hmm, whatever). If confeds are better, then why not help the rebels?

And that's why everything there is chaotic. More boards and being on ambrosiasw.com ruined the 'community. Though, the current Ares boards seem alot better than when they were on the old AresCentral.com site...

Actually, the old EV/O boards were great. Everyone was helpful and there was a real community. When andrew took over and merged ev.com with ambrosiasw.com., he flooded the boards with newbies. Most the oldies hated the new and less intelligent UBB boards.

Actually, the old boards weren't all that much better, it had high points and low points but on average it was a better than banter and brawl, and worse than the dev board. When the new boards came up, half the old people left or so, and the other half split up, the intelligent people moved to the dev board, and the immature spammers moved to the banter and brawl so they wouldn't have to be moderated and could say what ever they wanted.

Throughout their history these "unenlightened" beings have continually opposed and fought abuses of power wrought by their own bretheren. We, as the prophets would do well to learn from these Humans.
