daffodil heroes

thing
that everyone else
wants to flush into oblivion
searching for murder
slouching towards babylon
with only our broken sight
to lead us
astray
to our destination
oh oracle

feed me birdsongs
in my sleep
so that I can talk to god
on his throne
in his chamber
in my hand
on my mind
on the steamy sewers
of metropolitan nights
where the bums keep warm
on the refuse
of aristocratic night.
